More Fabric Quilted Postcards

Yesterday I posted some of the fabric postcards that I had made and I have some more to show to you today. I still have more I am working on in various stages too. Plus one I made that I don't want to show you yet until that person receives the cards. I want her to be surprised first before she sees it here on my blog lol!
I added sequins and French Knots at the top of the dress. I don't want to add beads or buttons in case these go through the mail. I worry about them coming off or getting broken. So with the sequins being flat and well stitched in place, that won't happen
A little blue bird.
This is the only 3-D postcard I made. It was a bit fussy and I won't do another one like this for a postcard. I might for a small wall quilt though.
A teacup. There was so much background space that needed something, so I sewed on some sequins and added French knots in the centers.
A single coneflower.  It's royal purple, but that color always photographs more blue for me.
A handbag.
I only had a small piece of this fabric and I loved it. I made it into a couple of postcards and I added glitter to the fabric.
Another section of the fabric gives it a different look. More glitter added to this one too.
A tulip. I free motion stitched this whole card and tried a decorative stitch on the edging. This card has a different backing fabric and so it was thinner to stitch the edging through.
I had painted this card first made it into a postcard and left it as is. But it just needed something else, so I did some doodling on the card. It was harder to doodle on it after-the-fact, because my lines were a bit more wobbly drawing on the thicker fabric.
This too was a painted postcard I made and then decided to add the doodles on after.

Fabric Quilted Postcards

I have been busy making some fabric quilted applique postcards lately. Here are the finishes ones I've made. I have a lot more pieces I cut out and I need to get more backgrounds prepared to finish the rest.
Flip flops, which is perfect for summer.
This is the back of one of the postcards.

Sisters Quilt

Last year I entered the Sisters Quilt Block Contest (read about the contest here) and I was one of the honorable mention winners. I received my own block back and 17 more blocks. Half of those were hand sewn blocks that were made by Japanese women. Here is the block that I made:
This is the block that I made for the QBC (quilt block contest). I received a blue fabric packet and some others received green fabrics.
My block hanging in the Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show last year, with an honorable mention ribbon attached. (Sun was shinning bright so the ribbon didn't show up very well.)
My block is the 4th down from the top on the left side of the quilt. As you can see some people had green fabric packets and others blue. I chose to use the blocks I won as the border to this quilt.
I created a scrappy neutral background and added the appliques. Sisters has a dual meaning. First this quilt will be on display at the Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show in July and it also represents me and my sister.
Hubby helping to hold this up for a photo, lol.
The label I created for the back of the quilt. I included all the women who made the blocks on the front and where they are from.

The Stow it All Tote

I recently tested a tote bag designed by Christine of Chris W. Designs. She has just released her pdf pattern for the Stow it All tote bag, so now I can finally show you my version of the bag here. To get a 20% discount in this pattern, scroll to the bottom to find out how.
I used batik fabrics for my tote. The black is a Southwest print of Kokopelli, lizards, turtles and sunbursts. I scanned the fabric and enlarged one of the sunbursts and created the applique on the flap. I machine stitched around the applique using 2 different decorative stitches. I used a magnetic snap because I didn't have the twist lock closure that was called for. I chose to leave the front pocket large and didn't divide it as the pattern calls for.
This is the back of the tote. Again I left this back pocket large and didn't divide the pocket. I wanted to be able to carry a theme notebook or folder.
The pattern calls for a lining that will create an accent on the front of the bag. I didn't want to use this bright batik as the entire lining or I would need to wear my sunglasses to see inside!. So I instead sewed the accent fabric on. I wanted a softer lining fabric, which is the light coral pink fabric. I did add my usual zipper pull, but after I took this photo.
This lining is softer on the eyes, yet I still have the accent fabric I wanted. I did it the hard way though, lol. It would be much easier to sew according to the directions using a lining fabric that will also be your accent on the front and the pockets inside here.
I always love to have a pen pocket.
My large front pocket.
I love how this tote turned out.
To see all the other bags that were tested go to Christine's Blog. There is a lot of fabric variety to feast your eyes upon there.

Grab Your Discount! To get your pattern at 20% off, simply visit Christine's shop here and use the discount code: stowit in your shoping cart! (Sorry - only valid at Chris W. Design's website, not Etsy or elsewhere!) Note: Code is valid until Midnight Tuesday 24th June EST!
