Monster Blue Jean Patch
My daughter brought over my grandson's blue jeans that had a hole on the leg and asked me to patch them. I remembered seeing a really cute patch on Pinterest that made a monster out of the hole. So I thought my grandson would love these. When I brought them back to my daughter and showed my grandson, he told me he didn't want that patch, he wanted a plain patch. Apparently, he is concerned about what his friends at school might say and afraid of being teased by them. He's only 7 years old in the first grade! Geesh! I asked him if he wanted a scarier monster? No he wanted a plain patch. So I ripped off the eyes and just patched a blue jean patch over the monster;s mouth. Note to self: Ask first before making anything for him again. I thought these were so darn cute and if I get a hole in my jeans, well I might just make myself a monster patch!

Small Treat Tote Bags
I made 4 tiny fabric gift bags out of 2 fat quarters of Christmas fabric. It's a free tutorial called Small Treat Totes. These small bags would be perfect in Halloween fabric filled with goodies, or choose a fabric for a birthday theme and fill with party favors for the kids. How about a Valentine Day fabric filled with chocolates? So many holiday uses and a great way to use up some of those smaller pieces of holiday fabrics too. 2 fat quarters will yield 4 small lined bags. As you can see you get 2 light top with dark bottom bags and 2 the opposite. The bag is about the size of the palm of my hand to give you an idea of their size.

Sewing Purse {February 2015 Update too}
I made this (Tammy) bag as a gift for a friend of mine. It can be used as a sewing bag (or in a different fabric it works well as a makeup bag too). I had some metal purse frames already and used what I had. One thing I learned about using the metal frames is that some frames open wider than others. I didn't know this before I purchased my frames. So if you want a frame to open wide, then you need to buy a purse frame that is not short on the sides. The longer the sides of the frames are the wider they open. So while this purse works, it would be nicer to open wider. I think I will use the rest of the purse frames I have to make eyeglass cases because they do not need to open real wide or be very deep. Sorry Bobbie I didn't have the wide frame for your bag :0( The frame can be easily replaced if you find a wider frame, since you sew the frame in place. This is one reason I like the sew on frames, rather than the glue on frames, plus I know I would probably make a mess with the glue and ruin the bag, lol!*** See UPDATE scroll down to ***
***Update February 2015: I found the right size purse frames and re-did the frame for this bag I made for Bobbie. The following photos show the bag with the new frame and how wide it now opens.

This side has a full pocket. The other side has a divided pocket. I added a little charm on the frame too. |
Inside there is a full pocket and another divided pocket. |
I made the pocket on this side divided. I added a charm on the bag too. |
This is the new purse frame I sewed to the bag after removing the silver one above. |
See how nice an wide the bag opens now? |
The bag is usable now that you can see inside and put your hand in more easily. |

Black Rib Knit Scarf
I knit another rib scarf in a soft black yarn. Even though I block my scarves, some scarves still want to curl in. Even scarves with a garter or seed stitch edge sometimes curl in after blocking. I guess it's the yarn I use or the needle size that has something to do with it? Any other knitters have this problem with curling? Do you have any suggestions as to why this happens and what I can do to prevent it or how to block the curl flat? I know some stitches don't curl, but I am following some patterns and they don't looked curled on the pattern or tutorial. The charcoal gray yarn I used did not curl in, but this one did and I knit the same rib pattern.

I smoothed the scarf flat before I took the photo. You can see the lower part of the scarf has curled in a bit, but it's more curled in now. |

Quilted Chef Placemats
I have been wanting to make this fabric panel that I had into placemats for a few years now. It's a Loralie Design print fabric and it has these large prints of chefs on the fabric. So I cut each section out and added a red border on them and then quilted them. I sent these to my sister for Christmas. Her husband is a chef, so I thought these would be nice placemats for her to have and they are such fun prints too. I used a vegetable print fabric on the back and the binding that is also a Loralie print so it really goes well together.

Bow Tie For My Grandson
My 7-year old grandson loves to wear ties and especially bow ties. So I made him 2 bow ties, but only gave him the Christmas fabric bow tie so he could wear it several times before Christmas. The other bow tie is wrapped and under his tree. He chose the fabric months ago for blue tie. I think it's safe to post these on my blog now, since he doesn't read my blog, LOL!!!

Trying to find a way to photograph the bow tie, I noticed that this Buddha garden statue in my front yard would work perfectly as a model. lol!!! |
Christmas candy fabric made a nice looking bow tie. |
The blue bow tie was a fabric that looks like a man's shirt fabric. |

Flower Blocks
I made one of the flower blocks for the DOD Mystery Block Swap (Quilter's Garden) and it came out okay, although the measurements are a bit larger on one side then they are supposed to measure and I am not sure what happened. I also had some trouble with marking the correct angles of some of the pieces and so I didn't make a matching opposite block because I screwed up the marking and cutting. I decided to try again and this time I had trouble with the center cupping like a mountain! I pressed it and it was better but not perfect. So don't worry I will be keeping that one. I finally figured out that with the cutting and sewing and re-cutting and sewing that my measurements must have gotten thrown off with each step. I was going to just give up and not bother with making any more, but decided I should try to just sew the triangles together and not make the inner spin pieces which would have involved more marking, cutting and sewing, and that I obviously am not be doing very well. I liked making these and they came out the correct size. Since these 2 blocks are different from the flower block choices that we could choose to make, I will keep them for myself. Anyhow here is what I ended up making~

The block above is the block I am swapping. |
This block came out cupped in the center! Arg. So I will keep this one. |
This is the opposite color placement. |
Both side-by-side. |
The folded flower with button and apparently the thread of the fabric got in the photo too, lol!!! |

Christmas Wreaths
Today it's snowing outside. It's our first snow of the season. I forgot to post these Christmas wreath photos. I decorated these wreathes and my husband and I hung them up right after Thanksgiving.
