Colorful Knit Socks

I knit these socks for myself out of this colorful yarn I had (yarn label missing). I really like this yarn and I don't know what brand it is. It has a really nice twist to the plys. This yarn doesn't pill much which I really like because all the other sock yarn I have used pills a lot! So I wish I knew what yarn this was.

Bloom Blocks 7-14

Here are my Bloom Sew Along blocks 7-14.  My first 6 blocks are here.  I mentioned in my posting of the first 6 blocks, that I am doing my blocks with fusible web and stitching around the pieces and not adding a border to my blocks as I am not sure how I want to set them. I like to do my own thing at least a little bit when I follow another person's block or quilt design.

Cozy for a Cone of Thread

I was playing around one day and wanted to make something to hold the thread in place on a large thread cone. I got out my felt and did a little embroidery and  came up with this thread cone cozy. I have about 60 cones and I knew I didn't want to make 60 of these, but I did made 2. One is in black, but I didn't take any photos of it. This works well but I should have made the closure adjustable, because when the thread gets used a lot the snap will be too loose on the cone. I figured I will just use it on a fairly full cone anyhow and then switch it to another cone if this orange thread gets used a lot. It was easy to make and if I ever need a hand project I could make a few more, but for now I won't be making any more.
I used acrylic felt for making this cozy.

The back I sewed a snap to close it.

Another use for this felt cozy is to wrap it around the wires of an iron or sewing machine, etc. so that the cord stays together when I take my machine and iron to a class or a retreat. If I make more, I will use Velcro as the closure so that the cozy is adjustable.

Playing Card Carousel Becomes Thread Holder

I found another find at the thrift store. I didn't know what it was when I picked it up. It said it was a playing card carousel, but I wasn't sure how it was used. I looked it up online later and those pegs hold the cards in place when playing and there is Lazy Susan on the bottom to turn it, but it really doesn't turn very well. One of the pegs was broken off, so if I can find a small enough peg to fit I will add it in the hole. When I saw it I thought it would make a great thread holder. I bought it for $2.99.

Thread spools fit perfectly on here and there is space to add a pincushion and a thread catcher and scissors too.

Wool Felt Cupcake Pincushions

I borrowed a book from a friend that had some wool felt pincushions on the cover. (Book is entitled, Warm Fuzzies: 30 Sweet Felted Projects, by Betz White. They are made with the wool from felted sweaters and I had a lot of those around, so I had to make some of these pincushions. They are useful and cute and will make nice gifts too. I needle felted the cherry on top of the pincushions using some roving I had. I made 4 large ones and 14 small pincushions. The pins nicely glide into the pincushions too.
18 cupcake pincushions; 4 large and 14 small.

I needle felted the cherry to make it and needle felted it in place too.

Cotton Knit Bowl

I saw this pattern somewhere and decided to knit a bowl using cotton yarn. It knit up nicely, but is rather soft and floppy on the edges. I suppose if I had something inside the bowl it would hold things just fine. Knit up like a boxy hat.
Using a variegated cotton yarn in pink, brown and white (Neapolitan), I knit this bowl. Most of the brown wanted to stay on this side of the bowl.

While the pink yarn ended up on this side of the bowl.

Looking down into the bowl. You can see the sides of the bowl are soft and not very rigid.

The bottom of the bowl started off nicely looking like stripes and then decided to knit with most of the brown on one side and the pink on the other.

Iced Drink Knit Cozies

I wanted to knit something that uses up small amounts of yarn since I have so many misc. balls of yarn. I found a pattern from one of those old knitting calendars that has a pattern to knit every day of the year. The cozy uses sport weight yarn. I knit one and then tried it on a drinking glass and it fit perfectly! I love how the knitting pattern feels nice in my hand. Those ridges are a nice place for my fingers to grab. These cozies are great because they are like a coaster and cozy in one, since the bottom is knit. It keeps the sweat from the iced drink from getting on your hands and table and it's a great thing to knit with my small amounts of yarn. It also fit nicely on a canning style jar too.  Here is the link for the free pattern.
This was the first cozy I knit. It is a wool or wool blend (unmarked) yarn.

The bottom of the cozy.

The yellow yarn is an acrylic mohair like yarn. I thought I might run out of yarn and so I added some pink yarn toward the bottom. I went back to the rest of the yellow for the bottom of the cozy and had just enough of the yellow to complete this cozy. That's one ball of yarn used up.

Another unmarked ball of yarn, but it feels like it's cotton.

Bottom of cozy.

Same green cozy as above, but this is now on a jar and it covers most of the jar.

Same yellow cozy on a jar.

Same brown cozy on a jar.

Colors of the Southwest Fiber Art Show

April 1 & 2, 2016 was the Colors of the Southwest Fiber Art Show in Albuquerque. It was in one room at the Albuquerque Garden Center. While the room wasn't huge, they sure packed a lot of handmade fiber items into the room. I took over 200 photos of all the items on display. They are all posted to my Flickr Album in case you would like to see the entire show. There were lots of quilts, knits, crochet, weaving, embroidery, and more!

Here is one of my favorite quilts from the show (there were a lot of beautiful quilts on display). This quilt was made by Ardith Alumbaugh, who is a member of the quilt guild I belong to.
