Blog Lovin Questions...

I have used Blog Lovin for a while now and I don't know if anyone else is experiencing these things, but I wanted to ask in case maybe there is some way to correct some of these problems or is it just the quirkiness of Blog Lovin?

  • When I get my daily email from Blog Lovin showing the blogs I follow, I click to read the posting and on some blogs I can make a comment on that blog, but a lot of blogs I cannot comment while in Blog Lovin. So I have to then go directly to that blog in order to comment. Of course this takes more time and often times I won't leave a comment because I don't want to have to go through those extra steps. Isn't Blog Lovin supposed to make it easier to read the blogs?
  • Another thing I noticed is that some of the blogs I know that post often were not showing up on Blog Lovin. So I would go to their blog to see if maybe something was going on with them. I found out they they were posting and I missed a ton of posts because they didn't show up on Blog Lovin. I even made sure I was following them through Blog Lovin and I was, so why wasn't I getting their posts in the Blog Loving emails?
  • While reading some blogs through Blog Lovin, the posting might contain links to click on. But I have found that those links weren't clickable when in Blog Lovin. Again I would have to go to that blog directly in order to click on the links in their posting.
  • Having to go directly to blogs in order to comment or click on links makes Blog Lovin not so user friendly. If my readers are having these problems when reading my blog, then they must feel frustrated too. I am sorry if this happens when you are here. It is out of my control.
  • I prefer to use my Blogger Dashboard because I do not experience any of the above, however not all blogs I read are on Blogger (some use Word Press or Type Pad), so I cannot follow through Google Friend Connect, and therefore must follow through Blog Lovin or by email.
  • Speaking of following by email, some blogs when following by email will have the entire posting show up in my inbox, and others will give you a snippet and you must click to read more. So again that takes more time and more steps to get to the blogs. I prefer the posting to show up in my email. If I get a snippet and it doesn't catch my attention, I won't click to read more. How about you? I do not know why some blogs have the entire posting and other don't. Is there a setting we can choose as bloggers to change this? Or does it depend on the email service provider like Feedburner? I am not sure.
I want it to be easy for my followers to read my blog. I want it to be easy for me to follow other blogs too. I don't know if these things I have noticed are fixable or not? Does anyone using other readers like Feedly have these problems too? I don't want to try Feedly or others (not sure the names of other readers) unless I know they are better. I'd love to hear if you have any solutions or know of a better reader that doesn't do these things?

UPDATE:
Thanks to Mary who commented she follows all her blogs on her Blogger Dashboard. I didn't know I could follow Word Press or Type Pad blogs there. So after I read and responded to Mary I happened to notice on my dashboard the little "Add" button on the left side. I clicked on it and voila, you can add any URL address there to follow those non-blogger blogs. Who knew? I am learning more and more every day. Okay now I am going to add all the blogs from other formats to my dashboard and say adios to BlogLovin, because I am not Lovin it. Thank you Mary for telling me that you do this.

I also filled out a comment form on BlogLovin to tell them about the problems and hopefully they will fix it and make it better if you follow that way.

  1. The inablility to comment, or comment easily, has been occurring with others, too. I've been reading mostly from my dashboard but I've noticed that some blogs show up on Bloglovin way before they show up on my dashboard.

  3. I am having the exact same problems. I liked it at first but I am disappointed for the same reasons you are. I'm open to suggestions.

  4. I use my dashboard too. My problem is that some are not on Google connect and therefore I have to read Bloglovin so I won't miss anything. Double duty! ugh.

  5. I have always used my dashboard. This whole thing with bloglovin has mystified me from day one. I have some blogs with wordpress, and can add them through the set up in dashboard and can read them. I found out I have a bunch of bloggers following me on Bloglovin, and none ever comment except one. She said she has to Control Click on "Post a Comment" and it opens up to my comment page in a new window. Ain't technology grand?????

  6. I have never used any blog reader services nor do I sign up for emails. I read blogs from the sideboard of my blog and I use my dashboard. Thank you for confirming that I have been doing the right thing all along. I thought maybe I was missing out on something, but it seems it's the opposite way around. Good luck with all this, Daryl!

  8. I use my dashboard too and am not fond of Bloglovin' at all. I will say this, I had some problems in the beginning with Bloglovin...couldn't log in, etc. and when I wrote to them, I had an answer very quickly along with a follow up a few days later, asking if it was working OK now. My point is that the customer service appears to be listening and responding so maybe some of these issues might get fixed....who knows?

  9. Hi!!!! I follow you on my dashboard so I am ok....but some of your readers may still want to view your blog from bloglovin!!!! I follow lots of blogs on bloglovin also having the same problems as you did...but it does let viewers check current posts..

  10. I'm glad to hear I am not the only one not "Lovin'" Bloglovin! One of my major complaints is that you cannot see who is following you except when they first sign up to follow. One "blog" signed up to follow me and it was clearly a spammer. I wrote to Bloglovin asking how I could block them from following me - after a week, they finally got back to me and said right now there was no way to do that! I had no choice but to allow this spammer to follow me! Nope - I don't like that at all!!! I have always used my Blogger Dashboard to read blogs so Google Reader going away did not bother me, but I signed my blog up on bloglovin because I wasn't sure what would happen to the Dashboard. I'm sticking with Dashboard from now on! My only issue with it is that it limits the number of blogs I can follow, but it never hurts to go through and purge out the blogs I never read.

  11. I've been reading everyone's comments and I think I must be the only one that likes bloglovin LOLL My internet is very slow sometimes so when I click on a blog from bloglovin at the top of the blog is a bloglovin bar I turn that off by clicking the cross in the top left hand corner and never have any problems commenting. I follow you mainly by email. Your post comes as a complete post to my email rather than a snippet which I like, it saves time. I'd love to know how mine is seen in peoples emails so if you find out how to show the whole post I'd love to know.

  12. I use Feedly, and love it.. It updates all the time and I do not have any problems. The thing I did not like about bloglovin is that the email came at 10pm with my blog update, way to tired and the day is over. I love Feedly!

  13. Like Jane, I use Feedly and love it. Tried Bloglovin' and didn't like it. On your last bulleted item about some posts being truncated while others weren't: it is a setting that the poster/blogger can pick in their settings; you will have not control over it. I have found that it is normally a blogger who has ads on their blog to make money will truncate their posts. This makes the people who read via a reader click through to their blog and every visit earns them a couple of pennies.

    1. That is somewhat true about bloggers with truncated posts. There are others that do it cause it prevents their posts from being scraped. One blogger I follow had over a years worth of content scrapped from her site.

  14. I am haveign the same issues. Which can be very annoying and makes me waste time. I have had problems several times even accesing my blog son Bloglovin. I think they must be bogged down with traffic and their servers can't handle it all.

  15. I have problem with Bloglovin too. And I am not happy at all

  16. I'm doing fine with Bloglovin....I have it on my ipad screen and just pop in that way rather than being sent emails. There is a search button at the top and you can just find any blog and hit the follow button from there. I used to just read from my dashboard as well but I'm finding this working well. I'm in there right now and plan to comment from there. It's no extra work to go right to the sight than to my dashboard.

  17. I use Bloglovin and like it a little bit. I bounce back and forth from it to my dashboard. Sometimes Bloglovin won't let me leave comments, but with a quick click to the X in the right hand corner I end up on the blog and can leave a comment. Maybe someone at Bloglovin will listen and fix some of the issues.

  18. I do all of my blog reading using Feedly on my iPad or iPhone and love it! I use the save for later feature a lot... Either to comment later on my PC (I prefer full keyboard!) or for easy pinning or just a reminder. The comments work fine on the mobile versions I should add! I think it's a great Reader replacement.

  20. Hi Daryl,
I have not heard of blog lovin so it was new to me when I read your post. You are the only blog I follow. I found your comments interesting and thorough. I gave up doing many things on the internet because I found them to not be very user unfriendly.

  21. I really don't like Bloglovin but I hope that they take care of the issues. I do subscribe to some of my favorites via email but I understand about what you were saying that sometimes you have to click on the read more to continue and so on but I think it may be the way it's set up by the person blogging. I may have to look into the Feedly more. Thanks for bringing awareness/attention to this issue and I hope bloglovin listens. Have a great evening
    Hugs,
    Norma

  22. Yep I've been having all the same problems on bloglovin. Now I never thought of going directly to the blog to post a comment.
Now I used to always follower thru the blogger dashborad before but I will say this depending on when the blogger post you could still miss some of your favorite blog post.
One of the things I like about bloglovin is that I got a daily email those that posted so when I'm way behind on reading I could start on the oldest and move forward. Now I know that some of my folks that post aren't showing up either. grrrrr
With dashboard I had to scroll and scroll to get to pick up from the last blog I read. Any suggestions there? Make sense?
