Low Tide Cardigan

I knit this short sleeved cardigan, called the Low Tide Cardigan, using a variegated yarn that I purchased from Knit Picks. It's a Merino/Alpaca/Nylon blend fingering weight yarn.
Patchouli Moon Studio
I added a few rows of garter stitch to the bottom of the cardigan all the way around. The directions say to just bind off after it reaches a certain length, but I wanted it to curl less and to tie in with the other garter stitch edges.
Patchouli Moon Studio
It feels so soft. This has a nice drape to it and the front is longer than the back

I found some silver buttons that worked well for this. They sort of look like starfish, which goes with the  Low Tide name of this cardigan.

I love this pattern as it adds such a pretty touch of a lacy pattern to the yoke.

Another Small Savannah Bag

After seeing the Savannah bag that I made smaller for myself, my daughter wanted me to make her one too. She has always liked the messenger/lap top style bags for carrying round the things she needs. She wanted me to use this batik fabric with the palm trees that I had. Then I showed her some other batiks and hand dyed fabric that I had that I thought would work well with it and she was fine with those choices. So here it is: (this is a Chris W. Design design bag)

I used a hand dyed fabric for the lining that I dyed a couple of years ago.

Looking inside the bag there are 3 pockets.

Zipper pull I made with beads and a charm that says it all. The green batik here looks like an Army green, which is not the true color.

I took some photos inside because you can see the green color how it really looks.

Say it With Flowers Blog Hop: My Day

It's my day to share my Flower Creations. I love flowers, all kinds of flowers. I never met a flower I didn't like. I am partial to cone-flowers/echinacea, but I love all flowers! I had a few works in progress that needed to get finished and this blog hop was just the thing to light my fuse and get me going. Thanks Madame Samm for creating this blog hop and for sweet Carol of Just Let Me Quilt for cheer-leading on this hop.

Before you all think I never sleep, let me explain that some of these quilts were started over 3 years ago. One needed to be quilt and bound, another just needed the binding, one needed a border and then to be quilt and bound, and another I added some embroidery, border, quilting and binding to in order to finish it.

I hope you enjoy all of my flower creations...

Flowers in Pots. I hand blanket stitched with embroidery floss  the flowers and pots and machine quilted.

I drew this sunflower on black fabric using a bleach pen. It's bleach discharged, removing the black dye. I painted green dye over the discharged areas of the leaves and grass and stem. I painted red dye over the center of the sunflower and touched a little dye into the flower petals. I left the flower petals just as it was after the bleach discharge.
Patchouli Moon Studio
I added a triple fabric border and corners. I used a couple of decorative machine stitches to stitch the wavy border. This is my own original quilt design.

This echinacea cone-flower quilt was needle turned appliqué by hand. I embroidered the spider and spider web by hand. I fused on some fabric butterflies and hand embroidered the antennae. Machine quilted the quilt.

Close-up of spider web and spider. I used one strand of Mylar along with the embroidery floss to give the spider web a sparkle to simulate the sun shining on the morning dew of the web. It really sparkles, even if this photo doesn't show it well.

I made this Sewing Needle Roll out of wool felt. All made by hand with added appliqué and embroidery. It rolls up and snaps to keep it closed. This is my own design I made up. The pattern for this is in my Craftsy store.
Patchouli Moon Studio
Here the roll is opened. There is a pocket at the bottom to hold my thimble and little scissors.  The  orange rectangle holds my needles, and the pink flower is stuffed with fiberfill and is the pincushion. I hand dyed all the felt except the white and dark green leaves.

Close-up of pincushion. Those large round red, blue, pink and black things are my pins in the pincushion. On top are orange French knots.
This I made from a packet of batik flowers and hand dyed orange and yellow fabric. I made up the setting. All I needed to do to finish this quilt was to bind it. I used a fabric for the binding that has fuchsia, yellow, and orange in it, which was perfect.

I used a stencil to paint these cone flowers on fabric. I found the stenciled flowers in my UFO pile and decided this blog hop was just the thing I needed to finish it. I found the perfect fabric for a border and binding and the right green for the narrow inner border in my fabric collection. It was meant to be.
I free-motion echo quilted this small quilt.

Fiber Arts Fiesta 2013 Photos...

I took over 600 photos at the Fiber Arts Fiesta. This is a fiber show that happens every 2 years in Albuquerque, New Mexico at the State Fairgrounds (on the odd number years).  It took me 3 days to  upload, download, crop, etc. all these photos! Whew! There are quilts, knitting, crocheting, wool felt, rugs, baskets, tatting, lace, clothing, mixed media, cross stitch, embroidery, Japanese braiding, and a whole lot more. So you can see why I took so many photos.
This is just a portion of a quilt about eating your veggies. I loved how colorful it was. I am a vegetarian, so eating more veggies is not a problem for me, lol. Go to my Flickr photos to see all the photos I took.

Knit Dishcloths

Patchouli Moon Studio
I knit this cotton dishcloth in the Snakes and Ladders pattern by Michelle Krause.
Patchouli Moon Studio
I knit this cotton dishcloth in the Boxy Dishcloth pattern, also by Michelle Krause. I was just a few stitches short of the binding off when I ran out of this orange yarn. If you look at the top right hand corner you can see that I had to use another yarn that I had on hand, which was a black cotton yarn. So that is the reason for the tiny bit of black there. Oh well, it's just a dishcloth.

New Blog Hop Coming in June...

Sew We Quilt Blog Hop
This one sounded like a lot of fun so I just had to sign up. I have so many ideas for this hop that I don't know if I can stick to one theme OR if I will have time to create all the ideas I do have. I just signed up yesterday for this, so I don't have the date I will show mine yet, but the hop is from June 26- July 3. I can't wait to see all the ideas the others come up with too. Should be fun to hop around and see. Hope you come back and see what I created and hop along to see the other creations too.

No-Reply Bloggers: a Different Perspective

I was reading Pam's blog this morning at Threading My Way and she had a link to another blog, Sews and Bows which wrote a posting about No-Reply Bloggers that was very interesting. So many bloggers want to rid the world of no-reply bloggers, but it may not be their fault. Check out this link and read it to understand why some people are no-reply bloggers.

And if any of you no-reply bloggers comment to enter give-aways, just make sure that you include your email in the comment section for your chance at winning. If in doubt always include your email.

It's For the Birds Blog Hop

Thanks again to Madame Samm for creating another fun blog hop and to cheerleader Mary.

I saw this free pattern for making these little knit owls puffs and I thought it was a great project to use up some of the misc. yarn leftovers I have. They were fun and easy to make. I found myself knitting so many of them that I decided to create a string of owls like you see strings of other fabric birds and things that are sold at import shops. Then I got the idea of having the owls perched on a branch. I found little pieces of branches and drilled a hole in them like a bead. I hot glued on some faux leaves too. I actually made 3 different sets of hanging owls, each with a different number of owls. I even made 3 in eyelash yarn and they look like baby owls.

Six owls. I gave this string  of owls to my daughter.

They look better outside, but they kept turning while I tried to take their photo.  I had to be quick or I would get their backside.

I made these 3 with eyelash yarn. After sewing on the eyes of the bottom one and getting the yarn tangled up as I sewed, I opted to glue the eyes on the remaining two owls.  They do look like little baby owls in the eyelash yarn.

I also love the bird logo from Bird Brain Designs. This bird is a free embroidery from Bird Brain Designs. I enlarged it and did a combination of applique and embroidery.

This owl was a free applique pattern from Cherry of Cherry Blossoms Quilting Studio. Cherry has been a frequent blog hopper with Mdm. Samm's blog hops too.

I decided to do a reverse applique border and then added rickrack and French knots all around the rickrack in 2 colors.

The state bird here in New Mexico is the roadrunner. I wanted to make something with a roadrunner too, but alas too many ideas and not enough time. So I leave you with a few photos instead.

The Rail Runner is the commuter train here in New Mexico. As you can see the roadrunner head and tail painted on the train. My grandson calls this the "bird train". He loves trains! Although roadrunners do not make a beeping sound like the roadrunner cartoon character does, when the doors are closing on the Rail Runner,  you can hear the beep, beep, beep sound.
