Sew Powerful Rooster Purses #94-108 / For the Birds Blog Hop

Hello Blog Hoppers! I wanted to join in on this blog hop so that I could make these 15 purses for the Sew Powerful Purse Project that I donate purses to. I had a panel of 15 smaller rooster panels and thought this would be perfect for making these purses and would work For the Birds Blog Hop too! Thanks Joan for being the hostess for this blog hop. It helped me to get these purses made and be able to join the blog hop too.

Here are the rooster purses that I made, including some close up pics of the buttons I sewed and I showed one photo of the back pocket in each of the 4 fabric prints that I used for the body of the purses.

Purses using a green Ultra Suede for the purse body. The green Ultra Suede was donated to me by a sweet woman in my quilt group.

These purses, along with others I have made will be mailed to Sew Powerful to help the girls in Zambia stay in school when they are in their periods, so they don't miss any school (they cannot make up any school if any days are missed). Once the purses arrive in Zambia, they are filled with reusable pads, underwear, and a bar of laundry soap. Sew Powerful employs women in Zambia to make the reusable pads, bar soap, and school uniforms for the various schools in Zambia. All of this is paid for from generous donations from people like you. There are purse maker volunteers from around the world helping to make theses purses to donate them for this charity. Please feel free to make a purse or 2 or more to donate. All info on the website in the links above. Join our Facebook Group too for lots of inspiration. Thank you!

Thanks to Joan of Moosestash Quilting for being the hostess for this blog hop. Joan created a Pinterest Board for this blog hop too, so you can pop over there and see all the projects at one time (once we all post on our blogs first).

It's For the Birds Blog Hop

Thanks again to Madame Samm for creating another fun blog hop and to cheerleader Mary.

I saw this free pattern for making these little knit owls puffs and I thought it was a great project to use up some of the misc. yarn leftovers I have. They were fun and easy to make. I found myself knitting so many of them that I decided to create a string of owls like you see strings of other fabric birds and things that are sold at import shops. Then I got the idea of having the owls perched on a branch. I found little pieces of branches and drilled a hole in them like a bead. I hot glued on some faux leaves too. I actually made 3 different sets of hanging owls, each with a different number of owls. I even made 3 in eyelash yarn and they look like baby owls.

Six owls. I gave this string  of owls to my daughter.

They look better outside, but they kept turning while I tried to take their photo.  I had to be quick or I would get their backside.

I made these 3 with eyelash yarn. After sewing on the eyes of the bottom one and getting the yarn tangled up as I sewed, I opted to glue the eyes on the remaining two owls.  They do look like little baby owls in the eyelash yarn.

I also love the bird logo from Bird Brain Designs. This bird is a free embroidery from Bird Brain Designs. I enlarged it and did a combination of applique and embroidery.

This owl was a free applique pattern from Cherry of Cherry Blossoms Quilting Studio. Cherry has been a frequent blog hopper with Mdm. Samm's blog hops too.

I decided to do a reverse applique border and then added rickrack and French knots all around the rickrack in 2 colors.

The state bird here in New Mexico is the roadrunner. I wanted to make something with a roadrunner too, but alas too many ideas and not enough time. So I leave you with a few photos instead.

The Rail Runner is the commuter train here in New Mexico. As you can see the roadrunner head and tail painted on the train. My grandson calls this the "bird train". He loves trains! Although roadrunners do not make a beeping sound like the roadrunner cartoon character does, when the doors are closing on the Rail Runner,  you can hear the beep, beep, beep sound.
