Evelyn Bag Enlarged & Modified

I wanted to make some changes to the Evelyn Bag (ChrisW Designs) and see how it would look and work. First, I enlarged the bag, then instead of 2 straps, I added a single long strap and I omitted the side pockets. Instead of adding the center fabric strip to the flap, I added rivets down the center instead. I also added purse feet to the bottom of the bag.

With the enlargement of the bag, it now measures 14 3/4" wide x 8" high x 4" deep at the widest measurement.

The exterior is all denim.

A zippered pocket on the back of the bag, plus another zippered pocket inside the bag.

A large divided slip pocket inside the bag and a zippered pocket across from it.

I added a stabilizer to the bottom and quilted it in place and added purse feet.

As a comparison, I made this Evelyn Bag years ago just like the pattern:

  1. While I definitely like the forward facing strap and hardware detailing on the original bag, I also like how you've modified it so that it's not so much of a "handbag" (which to me is not something that goes over the shoulder that well). It's a good compromise, overall. And I appreciate how you prove over and over again that it's really quite easy to adjust the size of a pattern by enlarging/reducing.
