Batik Scraps Dish Drying Mat
This a a scrappy batik drying mat I made for placing my washed dishes on. I made one in different fabrics quite a while ago and we needed another one. We don't have a dishwasher, so 2 drying mats were better than one. The first one I made scrappy in a different way and used commercial cotton fabrics. This one is batik and I like it better. It is holding up and looking better than the other one. Both were made using foam stabilizer inside instead of batting. The foam doesn't absorb the water as much a cotton batting would, so it dries faster. I also notice that the ones that are sold in the stores felt like foam was inside. It's a great way to use up scraps of fabric for a useful project.

Indeed, a very useful project for scraps. I’ve made these also except with batting. I only needed a small one as we do have a dishwasher. As you stated, though, the foam mats dry faster. And visual appearance is so much more pleasant than the old rubber drainer mat and dish rack. Ha!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful Daryl! That is a great idea to use the foam stabilizer in your mat, I used to make these and used a towel on the back but it took forever for them to dry. I'll have to try this. Thanks
ReplyDeleteThat is so neat Daryl, and I love the way you quilted it with the wavy lines. This is indeed a great and useful way to use up scraps!
ReplyDeleteSo cool. I love the way you quilted it too.
ReplyDeletelove the use of the batik fabric. you are a very cleaver person i never thought about making drying mats and why the heck not? foam stabilizer is a great idea it would make me happy to hand wash my dishes if i was looking at that mat. great job and so cleaver.
