Koi Fish Quilted Dresser Topper

My husband requested that I make him a topper for his dresser. He wanted something Asian looking and simple. I found this piece of Koi Fish fabric and added some patchwork squares to the sides. I quilted it and added the binding and it now resides on top of his dresser.

I quilted the koi fish with bubbles (or pebbles).

A simple square patchwork side border and diagonal quilting through the squares.

Here it is on top of his dresser.

The colors work nicely with this old dresser.

I used an Asian fabric on the back too.

  1. What a unique "manly" project! I've been on the search for just the right fabric for Hubby's den curtains. He requested something "manly", not sure exactly what he considers manly.

  3. Very nice Daryl! I love all things Asian and that koi print is lovely. It makes a great topper - neither too feminine nor masculine.

  4. If he suddenly feels the desire to do a lot more fishing than usual, you will know it is your fault! LoL. I imagine he enjoys seeing your beautiful stitching and this great runner every single day. Beautiful quilting, Daryl, and great backing fabric design too.

  5. It is nice to sew for others - especially when they are family.
I love the japanese prints so I could easily steal it to use on my table/dresser.

  10. Wow! This is gorgeous! And your pebbles are the perfect motif for this fabric. The back would be nice on top too, when the owner's mood requires something less vivid.
    Pinned, four times :-)
