Handknit Socks in Variegated Blues

Hello lovely knitters, I finished these handknit socks a few weeks ago.

My son came to visit on the 15th and brought an invisible friend with him that we'll call, Covid. So pretty much from my son's first day here, Covid demanded all of my son's attention and then wasn't satisfied with just that, so he also demanded my husband's attention as well. He tried and tried to get my attention too, but at first I was having none of it. Eventually Covid broke me down and all 3 of us were under the spell of Covid. My son finally broke free of Covid and then my husband did too. I got it last and so it would take more time before Covid would let me alone, but I finally feel like the worst is over. That Covid feeds off our energy and I have never felt so zapped in all of my life, nor slept so much.

I will be extra cautious again to avoid bringing home those invisible little friends and be wearing masks again while out in public. I haven't even gone anywhere in 2 weeks, but when I am up to going out, I will be masked. Believe me I never want to have a visit from Covid again! It's highly contagious and with summer here and people traveling and visiting, be extra careful my friends. Nothing ruins a vacation more than a visit from an invisible friend named Covid.

So here is the pair of socks I knit.

Stay healthy & safe my friends.

Blue Knit Socks

I knit another pair of socks for my husband. These I knit in blue (Lion Brand Sock Yarn). I recently darned the last 2 pair of socks I had knit him a couple of years ago. The socks seem to last about 2 years with some darning added a couple of times. He tends to be hard on socks and shoes. So I try to keep up and knit a pair every year or 2 for him. When I start knitting the heel and foot I add some nylon and hold it together along with the yarn while I am knitting. The nylon gives more strength and even though he gets holes in the heel and toe, it takes a bit longer for the holes to happen by adding the nylon. Maybe I need to add a triple strand of nylon?

You can see here where I added the nylon (light gray) along with the blue yarn in the lower part of the sock. The upper is the leg and that part never gets the wear that the heel and toe does.

Hand Knit Socks Made From My Hand Dyed Yarn

I dyed several skeins of sock (fingering) weight yarn last year. I knit a scarf using some of the yarn I dyed that you can see here. I just finished knitting these pair of socks. They came out great and I love how they feel and fit. I knit the cuff first and then I added a nylon thread along with the yarn and held them together to knit the heel to the toe. The nylon gives added strength to the sock yarn in those places that might eventually get holes. I used a gray nylon thread so it makes the rest of the foot look kind of heather looking.
The entire foot is knit with the added gray nylon held together with the yarn. The foot looks a bit lighter because of the addition of the gray thread. At least it does to me in person, lol!!!
I knit the cuff with the yarn I hand dyed. It's a rib knit of knit 2, purl 2.

Hand Knit Socks in a Self-Striping Yarn

I knit these socks from some self-striping yarn. Loops and Thread brand yarn (from Michael's). The yarn is a blend of merino wool, nylon and even 10% cashmere, making them very soft. I love the colors and like how the pattern of the yarn knit out. I was able to knit one entire sock and about 2/3's of the second sock from one ball of yarn. So if I knit a really short short leg, I might be able to knit another pair of socks from what is leftover of this yarn, or I could just knit the toes and heels in another contrasting yarn color. But in the meantime I need to finish a baby blanket I am knitting. Nearly done with it.
A simple knit 2, purl 2 stitch on the leg and top of the foot.

Corny Socks

I knit these socks with a yarn called Maizy. Maizy is a yarn made from corn fibers and blended with elastic. These are really a bright royal purple color, but that color purple always photographs more of blue-purple shade. I was going to provide a link to Maisy yarn, but when I looked it up online it said this yarn was being discontinued.

Knit Socks

I finished these socks that I starting knitting in April. I love the colors and it's always fun to knit with yarn that self stripes. I think self-striping yarn is the best yarn invention ever made!

New Project: Knit Socks

I started a new knitting project and am knitting some socks on 2 circular needles. This beautiful yarn I received as a gift from my friend Susan. It's Regia brand yarn in "Random Stripe" by Kaffe Fassett. This is a right twist cable pattern I am knitting.

Knit Socks & Yarn

I knit these purple socks for my friend Susan for Christmas. No matter how I photographed it the royal purple color of these just didn't come out in a photograph. They look more blue, but they are really a beautiful shade of purple. These are an acrylic/nylon sock yarn.

I also knit these socks for Susan too. They are a variegated self-striping yarn in blue and green. It's a wool/bamboo/nylon blend sock yarn.

Oh and look what Susan mailed to me! Now I can knit some socks for myself with this great-looking sock yarn in those yummy Kaffe Fassett colors. Wow so many colors in one yarn, I can't wait to see how they knit up. The green ribbony-type yarn I had never seen before. If you pull the green yarn out width wize it looks like those fishnet stockings I remember wearing years and years ago. Lots of possibliites for using this yarn. I wonder how it will knit up? Can't wait to try it. Thanks Susan!

Socks I knit

I knit these socks with self striping yarn. The yarn is a sock/fingering weight yarn by Serenity (Deborah Norville), which is a really nice blend of wool, bamboo and nylon. The bamboo makes the yarn soft and has a drapey quality.

Chunky Knit Socks

My friend Susan gave me a skein of Rowan's ColourScape chunky yarn by Kaffe Fassett. I started knitting a scarf and then seeing how much yarn I had, ripped the scarf apart and began making socks instead. I still had quite a bit of yarn leftover. I was pleasantly surprised how far one skein of this yarn went. These will certainly keep my cold feet warm on these cold nights!
