I signed up for the Fairy Tales Blog Hop awhile ago, which is hosted by Joan of Moosestash Quilting. Well I had an idea or two, but those just didn't pan out, so I switched gears and this is what I came up with.
I know you are wondering how does this fit the fairy tale blog theme? Well Joan said it can be YOUR fairy tale, so my fairy tale would include using up all my scraps, down to the itty bittiest scrap, so I created this table runner with all scraps (or nearly all scraps). I certainly didn't use up all of my scraps making this runner, but that is my Fairy Tale to be able to use up all of my scraps some day. Well, you know those dang scraps multiply like rabbits, so it is wishful thinking, but I will still be trying to use up those dang scraps.
As a Crafter's Edge Design Team member, I also used several die cuts to create this runner, which are listed farther down below.
First, just like in Rumpelstiltskin, a maiden spun her hair into gold while I sewed my scraps of white and tans into a background for my table runner.

I made 2 Dresden Plates from the Dresden die cut as sunflowers, added a stem from the 1" strip die. I used the Tumbler die for the pot and a 1.5" strip as the rim of the pot. I used the leaf from the Large Flower die set and some Whimsical Hearts from that die set and a small heart from the Nested Hearts too. So that is 6 different die sets that I used all or part of the die cuts from to create this table runner. And all of the batik fabrics that I used came out of my scrap bag! The backing fabric I cut from yardage, but everything else was from my fairy tale scraps, lol!
The following 6 Crafter's Edge Die Cuts were used in the making of this Dresden Sunflower Table Runner:

| 1" & 1.5-inch Strip Cutters: 1" strips were used for the stems and folded into the center. 1.5" strips were used for the rim of the pots. |

| The leaf from this Large Flower die was used for the leaves of the sunflowers. |

| The Sunflowers were made using the largest of the Rounded Dresden |

| I used the Tumbler die cut for the pots. |

| I used some Whimsical Hearts. |
 |
| I used the smallest heart from the Nested Hearts. |

Wow that is so fun, you put those die cuts to perfect use. I love the way the neutral tones of the background make the flower pot pop. Using the die cuts makes the cuts look perfect. great job all the way around its so cheerful.

Love the table runner! I too have a fairy tale of using up all my scraps. I think in our case the scrap fairy deposits more scraps on a nightly bases.

ReplyDeleteI nearly posted a scrap project as well, but I realized I don’t want to use all my scraps, so it wasn’t a good fairy tale for me! I really do need to make a lot of scrappy goodness though before I have 10 or more bins!

ReplyDeleteYour runner is fabulous. I enjoy a good low-volume background to give things a little spice. It really came out lovely. I had to think "where is the dresden" until of course, I realized it's from all one fabric but sure as anything, it's a dresden!! I'm so used to scrappy dresdens that your sunflower caught me off guard. This is truly lovely and the light background is just interesting enough not to take away from the bright flower pot. Thank you so much for sharing your talent and method for us all to be inspired!
