I found this
great tutorial online recently to make a zippered scissors case (or cozy). It's from
S.O.T.A.K Handmade. I made it and it fits my large scissors perfectly. However, my pinking shears are too large and do not fit, so I will need to enlarge the pattern to make a case for my pinking shears. I also have smaller scissors (lots of them) and I would need to reduce the size of the pattern to make cases to fit those scissors. I will be making more zippered scissors cases for sure!
I did make a few changes, as usual. I used a foam stabilizer rather than batting. I also top-stitched after inserting the zipper. I felt it needed top-stitching not only for the look, but to keep it all together better.
I used the same fabric I used for making my
Catch All Caddy (ByAnnie pattern), because I will keep my scissors in the caddy.

I photographed these all on my lime green mesh outdoor chair and it made the colors turn funny. The zipper and the ribbon tab are really school bus yellow, yet they look peach colored here. |

My zipper pull (of course)! |

The lining fabric is also a bright yellow fabric, but doesn't look like it in this photo. |

I have the case upside down here (oops)! But you can see the size of the scissors on the case here. |
Pin It Now!
I love your scissors case Daryl, so sweet fabric!

What a great idea. I love the fun fabric you used for the case and the zipper pull.
ReplyDeleteHow fun to sew a purpose built case for those precious fabric cutting scissors. Looks like a good gift idea too. Creative Sewing Bliss...
ReplyDeleteThose must be so handy. Your case looks really great Daryl! You have a gift for combining fabrics in fun ways.
ReplyDeleteI have scissors for all different uses and find it hard to keep them straight sometimes. It would be great to do something like this with labeled cases. Like... "Fabric only, you fool!" LOL
Too cool! Great colors including the zipper and tab. Just another neat project from the creating queen. Now you know I'm on it.
ReplyDeleteSuper cute. I could see doing something fun with the fabric to make it look like a slice of pizza!
