Snap it Up Baskets in Plastic

I made several Snap it Up Baskets in fabric when the pattern first came out. It's a pdf from Moments by Liz.  But I wanted to try using some plastic and so I went to the Dollar store and bought a few plastic placemats and a couple if plastic notebooks too. The I played and experimented with making some of the baskets in different sizes.

The placemats were a bit thicker plastic, so they felt the nicest. These didn't require any sewing, so this is a much faster project than sewing them, but of course yielded different results too. Whether made of plastic or fabric, they snap together to form the basket and when you unsnap them, they can lie flat to be stored. They are great for travel, since you store them flat until needed. The plastic ones would be good for travel since they can be wiped clean.

You can put all kinds of items in the baskets. I sometimes use mine to put things in that I am working on in another room or to store small things in like clips.

I love that this is actually Made in the USA! You don't see too many things that are still made here anymore.

This is a plastic folder that if you look closely will see it's stitches, which I liked. But this plastic was thinner and while it made a basket, I preferred the placemat thickness.

I loved this print of the hearts on a plastic notebook binder. I cut the metal part off so I had the front and back of the binder to work with.

Here is that first basket again. I used white snaps inside to match the inside and green snaps to go with the outside.

I made 3 with the stitches-look. I stapled the one in front.

I used clear packing tape to tape together the upper left one because I didn't have a large enough piece of plastic. It worked.

I made 2 baskets out of this placemat.

I got 2 baskets out of the binder notebook.

Enlarged Mini Hipster Bag in Blue Batik

This Hipster Bag was a custom order for a friend of mine. Blue was the requested color and batik or denim was the fabric desired. I showed her the 2 batik blue fabrics that I had enough fabric to make a bag and this was the winner. The lining color request was light blue, cream or yellow. I had a great yellow/cream fabric that I thought went really well, so I chose that. I made a matching Little Wallet to go with the bag too.

Inside is a dived slip pocket and a zippered pocket.

I made a pen pocket on each side of the center larger pocket. A nail file can also be placed into the pen pocket.

Under the flap of the bag is a divided slip pocket, so there are 2 pockets. I added a rivet under the snap, where the stitching is that divides the pocket in half, so there is less stress on the stitching there. As you can see the flap stays in place with the magnetic snap.

The strap connector is riveted in place and I added metal strap ends too.

I wanted to photograph this bag on a few different backgrounds.

The adjustable strap allows the bag to be lengthened or shortened to the person's preferred length and to wear on shoulder or across body.

This bag is now on its way to the new owner. It sure feels good to make a bag and have someone love it and use it. Another satisfied customer!

Selvage Fabric Basket

I love sewing selvages and creating fun bags and baskets and other things. The selvages are a bit heavier that the fabric being woven tighter, so they are good and sturdy. I made this fabric basket and I keep my sewing machine pedal, cord and other things for one of my machine in it when I am not using the machine. I don't have room to set up all my machines, so a couple are in the closet and get brought out and used when I need to applique or stitch other stitches. This is a perfect size to hold the foot pedal and cord.

I pinched the corners and sewed just on the binding to keep the rectangle shape of the basket.

Southwest Pottery Fabric Print Large Tote

I made this extra large tote bag with a zippered top to keep all the contents secure. The Southwest Pottery print paired well with the cork fabric print.

I added a slip pocket to the front of the bag between the strap connectors. I fussy cut the fabric to match perfectly, so you can't even see the pockets.
