Little Girl's Bag

I started making this little handbag months ago. I had originally planned on creating a pdf pattern for a little girl's handbag to sell on Craftsy, but then I lost my mojo for finishing this bag as well as creating a pattern.

When I had stopped by the library and was talking to the librarian that I had made a custom bag and matching wallet for, she happened to ask me if I had a bag for a little girl already made. I told her I did have one that was nearly finished as it just needed the straps to be sewn to the D-rings and a snap added to close the bag. She needed a gift and so I went home and finished this bag. The funny thing is the fabric I had used for the exterior of this little girl bag was the same fabric I used for the lining of the blue small Savannah bag I just made for Tracie. I think it was meant to be! I hope the little girl who receives this bag loves the bag as well as the fabrics.
This is the little girl bag I started months ago and finally finished. It's my own made up bag design.
Back of the bag.
A polka dot fabric for the lining, and pink polka dot for the binding.
The front pocket is here.
I added doubled stacked flower buttons for looks. Inside the bag it closes with a snap.
This dog print is the same fabric I used for the lining of the small Savannah bag I recently made here.

Wallet to Match My City Slicker Bag Plus a Tiny Matching Zip Bag

After making the Small Savannah Bag in blue with the matching wallet, I finally got around to making a matching wallet to my City Slicker Bag. I had cut out the fabric for the wallet when I made the City Slicker Bag back in April. I tested the City Slicker Bag for Christine of Chris W Designs. This was the June bag from the Bag of the Month Club (individual pattern available from Christine soon). I just kept putting it off. So after making the blue wallet with my new construction changes that I made to that wallet, I made this one to match the City Slicker Bag. Plus, I had made the tiny matching zip bag too, but was waiting to make the wallet before sharing that as well.
I barely had enough of this paisley fabric leftover to make the wallet. I had to add another fabric at the other end to make it long enough.  I quilted around the paisley shapes.
I used the purse print fabric as the lining fabric. Since it is a directional fabric it worked best as the lining, otherwise it would have ended up upside down as the wallet was folded if it was the exterior fabric.
See where my label is sewn? That coral colored fabric was the strip I added to the paisley fabric to make it long enough. I used a metal zipper because it was the perfect color and this one does zip fine. Sometimes those metal zippers don't glide as easily in this position. I added a zipper pull that I made to match too.
I made this a few months ago to match the bag too. It's a free pattern from So Sew Easy. I had a short metal zipper so I used it here and added a matching zipper pull.
This is a great bag to hold little things. I found it was perfect to hold my thumb drives/usb sticks. You can use it for coins or lipstick too and of course the key ring on the left is for your keys.
Here is the entire set.
With the straps up on the bag.

Small Savannah Bag #3 in Blue with Matching Wallet

When I made a Savannah Bag using a Chris W Design pattern last year, I not only loved how the bag was roomy enough to hold my laptop and so much more, but I loved the shape of the bag. I thought I could reduce the size of the bag so that it would hold my personal things without the laptop, and eliminate the pockets that I didn't need and add pockets that I wanted. My smaller Savannah Bag came out great. My daughter loves messenger style bags and she liked the look of this bag so I made my daughter a small Savannah Bag too in fabrics that she chose. It's one of my favorite bags.

The other day when I stopped by the library where I used to work, one of the librarians asked about making her a larger bag with pockets to hold her phone and keys. I had made a small flat style bag for her several years ago. I told her I would bring in some of the examples of bags that I had made and could make her a custom bag just for her. The next day when I brought in several bags for her to look at she really liked my small Savannah bag. She said she liked blue or purple and left it to me to put together the bag and the colors. I also asked if she wanted a matching wallet and she said sure. So I chose a couple of blue fabrics and added an accent of a purple batik that was the same fabric that I used for the flap of my small Savannah bag. I love the results and Tracie loves it too.
Here is the small Blue Savannah Bag I made. I changed the closure to a tab with a magnetic snap rather that a swivel hook closure.
The purple batik not only accents the center of the flap, but I used it for the 2 side pockets on the gusset too. The pockets will fit keys or a phone nicely.
There is a zippered pocket on the back of the bag.
With a zipper pull that I made to match the bag.
Another zippered pocket that I added in the front of the bag under the flap.
This zipper pull has a purple and blue bead.
The cute lining fabric I chose because Tracie is an animal lover and she especially likes dogs. This fabric was just a happy fabric and I hope she smiles whenever she opens her bag. :0) I also added a swivel hook inside to hold her keys if she wants that is located next to these pockets, but isn't visible in this photo.
The matching blue wallet. I chose the darker blue for the exterior so it wouldn't show the dirt as much. I added the purple accent strip and rounded the wallet corners to mimic the bag flap.
The light blue as the lining and another handmade zipper pull.
I made several changes to the way I made this wallet. You can't see all the changes that I made because most was in the construction. One was a happy accident that turned on the light bulb for me, lol!!! No need to explain and bore you with the details, lol!!!
The matching set. Oh so pretty!
The wallet inside the bag. She looks happy in the bag, don't you think?

Quilt Block Contest

I entered the annual Quilt Block Contest (QBC) again this year. This is a contest that goes along with the annual Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show, that is held the 2nd Saturday of July in Sisters, Oregon each year. Next year in 2015 they will celebrate the 40th anniversary of this fantastic quilt show. It's the largest outdoor quilt show in the world. I just love attending and helping to hang the quilts on quilt show day. I will have 4 quilts in the show this year, including the quilt that I made using the quilt blocks that I won (as one of the honorable mention winners) in last years QBC. I will be at the show this year and staying with my friend who lives nearby.

Okay back to the quilt block. We were given 5 fabrics to use and you can only use the fabrics that you receive, although you don't have to use all of the fabrics to create your block. They mix up the assortment of fabric that they give in each packet. There are actually 10 fabrics, although you only receive 5. You can embellish your block any way that you like. The quilt blocks are due June 15. The teachers of the Quilter's Affair (classes are taught all week before the one day quilt show by well known teachers) then vote for their favorite blocks. There is one best of show winner and the other top votes get honorable mentions .Westminster Fabrics donates the fabric each year for the contest. Here are the 2014 fabrics:
The 2014 fabrics for the QBC, sponsored by Westminster Fabrics.
I used all 5 fabrics that I received in creating my quilt block. I did all the embroidery by hand. Here is my block for the contest~
This is the quilt block that I entered for this year's contest.
I hand embroidered around the applique and added the dress hanger using a silver metallic embroidery thread. I added red sequins and blue beads too.
I love rickrack and I added French knots on top of the rickrack.
I found some trim in my trim box and this was the perfect color and size to add as a belt embellishment.
I even added a little swing tag, which is a metal charm, that reads Made with Love.

The teachers will vote on the blocks in July several days before the quilt show. Then all of the quilt blocks will be pinned to a large sheet and hung in the show. The winners will have ribbons attached to their blocks. Next to this years quilt blocks will be the quilts that have been made from the people who won blocks from previous years. I will have the quilt I made from the blocks I won last year hanging in this year's show. I will be posting photos of that quilt in the next week or 2. I finished the quilt I made from last year's block and this block months ago. I was waiting until after the quilt block deadline to show mine here on my blog.

Weekend Link Party #10

Welcome to Weekend Link Party #10. Link up anything you would like to share. And help spread the word by adding my button on your blog. Thank you! I encourage those of you who link up here to write a really good descriptive title so that we know what you are linking, since there are no thumbnail photos. If it is a quilt, please use quilt in the title. If it is a bag, use bag in the title and so on. That might help those who are looking to click on the titles that might interest them. Thank you so much!

Daisy & Poppy~Female Applique Quilts

I made a couple of applique quilts of young women holding handbags (of course!). I named one Daisy and the other one Poppy. Both of these quilts I took to the consignment shop this morning.
This is Poppy.

Poppy is holding a handbag that I added an embroidered piece from some trimming I had.
This is Daisy.  She is wearing a gingham top, blue jeans and boots
Daisy is an All American Girl, lol!!! I embroidered a chain for her handbag.
