Chevron Knit Blanket (Donated)

I knit this Chevron blanket awhile ago. I wasn't sure about donating it to Project Linus because of the yarn over "holes" created when knitting this. There is info on PL's website stating there should be no holes, yet on the Facebook PL group those who knit or crochet always seem to have "holes" in their blankets, so I asked about it on the FB group and did not get any definitive answer. 

The reason for the no holes is a good one. For babies tiny toes and fingers can get caught and cut off circulation. I learned about this years ago from my friend who is a nurse. The other reason is medical equipment can get caught in the "holes". Some said holes less than 1/2" are fine. But certainly that is for an older child as babies can still get toes and fingers caught in the holes. For those of us donating blankets that are knit or crocheted, we have no idea what child (any age) may be hooked up to medical equipment. So I hope these kind of blankets are given to the children who won't have any issues with the holes. I know I will never again knit any more blankets with any holes to donate to PL, just to be certain. 

If they won't accept them, where do they go? I have heard they donate to other charity groups, but if I am making these for PL specifically, I want to know if they are not accepted and passed on to another group. Maybe I will donate directly to that other group or stop making blankets to donate to PL if they don't end up there?

So after months of working on this Chevron Knit Blanket and more months deciding what I should do with it, I finally just donated it. I measured it and wrote down the measurements at the time, but don't know where I put it. I think it was 43ish inches wide x 50ish inches long. Good size for an older child.

I took photos inside on the floor under where there are 2 skylights. Funny how the colors can look so different. The true color is the dark one with mostly blue and touches of purple in the yarn.

I love how when starting to knit the Chevron stitches, the end naturally makes these scallops.

Giant Square Scrap Knit Blanket in Sock Yarn

I had lots of leftover bits of sock yarn piling up and so I wanted to knit something to use up all the bits and bobs I had and I found this knit blanket pattern and decided to use up sock yarn by knitting this square mitered blanket. 

The blanket is knit in the round starting in the center and continuing outward until you reach the desired size that you want. Increases are made every other round. I didn't have a long enough circular needle, so I knit this on 2 circular needles like I knit socks using 2 circular needles, which make to easy to knit. But by knitting on 2 circular needles it made it impossible to see how this large this blanket was getting. I would measure it from one corner to the center and double the number I got to visualize how large it was getting, but even so I wasn't quite sure when to stop knitting. The larger the blanket got the more yarn I needed. Some of those outer stripes were nearly a full skein of yarn just to knit about an inch of stripe. This was beginning to defeat the purpose of using up smaller bits of sock yarn. So I decided I would end knitting this blanket when it got to about 50" square.

Most of the sock yarn is a self patterning yarn making strips it other patterns as I knit, I also had a few solid colors of yarn. Since sock weight (also call fingering weight) yarn is so fine and narrow, it took me about 4 months just to knit this and I knit it from 2-4 hours each evening while I watched a movie or show on Netflix or Amazon. I might make another blanket like this in the future, but I will use my worsted weight or heavier yarns to knit it so it knits up quicker is thicker and warmer. While I love the drape the sock yarn has, it's not as warm as a thicker yarn would be.

Feather and Fan Knit Throw

I wanted to use up my worsted weight acrylic yarn, so I decided to knit a wavy blanket and change colors every few rows. I never know for sure how far my skeins of yarn will take me. This turned out as a nice size baby blanket. The pattern is a free pattern called the Feather and Fan Throw on Ravelry. It's an easy pattern to knit too.

Used up yarns of purple, pink, white, blue and a variegated yarn of purple, pink and white.

Oops I see a hair on the blanket there, lol!!!

Zigzag Knit Blanket & Yard Sale Find

I have a lot of miscellaneous balls of worsted weight acrylic yarn, so I decided to knit another zigzag blanket to use up some yarn. I still have a lot of yarn left, so I could have made this even larger., lol!!!

I bought this crochet top at a yard sale for 50 cents! It needs a bit of repair in a few places, but I thought it was so beautiful!
