Flower City Potholder Set

I recently tested the Flower City Potholder set by Radiant Home Studio. The pattern is a set of 3 potholders, with one being an oven mitt. I made the square potholder and the long casserole potholder. I made a goof in the oven mitt (my fault!) and didn't have any more of the same fabrics left, so I will only show you these two.
These two are the easiest to make and go together fairly quickly too.

I used some fabric I had around for a while that I knew would make a nice apron or potholder, but not needing an apron, I hadn't used this fabric. So it was the perfect fabric to use for this set of potholders.

The vegetable fabric was actually the border on both sides of the orange plaid fabric and the other coordinating fabric I had was the purple plaid. So I cut out the vegetable fabric for the pockets of these potholders.

Okay I am not that good at staging a photo, especially when taking these outdoors.

The empty Fiesta bowls look lonely without something yummy to eat in the bowls. A food magazine photographer I am not, lol!!!
Pop over to Radiant Home Studio while this pdf pattern is on sale, if you want to make some quick gifts for the gourmet chef in your life or the simple cook. You can even sew a patchwork version, which Sara includes the instructions for doing the patchwork version as well in the pattern. These could be a great scrap busting project as well. uses cotton batting and a thermal batting as well.

Water bottle Tote

I made this Water Bottle Tote, a pattern from Sara of Radiant Home Studio, recently. I admit that had some trouble making this. I don't know if I am becoming dyslexic as I am aging or what? But I was just having a hard time trying to understand a couple of the steps. I emailed Sara and she helped me with it. I guess sometimes things just don't click in my head. Some of it was that I wasn't reading it correctly. I had sewed the inner dividers wrong because I was folding it the wrong way! Looks so simple to make, right? So I don't know why it ended up being a bit of a challenge.  Does that ever happen to you? Where some parts of instructions just don't make sense? Well I got 'er done and am happy with it. Thanks Sara for your help. I don't have 6 bottles of water (or other beverages) to use as models for the tote though.

Inside the tote there are divisions for 6 bottles. Or you can use this to hold other tall things like knitting needles, rulers, fabric rolled up, etc. I used some fancy stitches to stitch the dividers, even though you won't really see the stitches much.

The North Pond Notebook Cover

I recently tested a notebook cover for Sara of Radiant Home Studio. This is a really cute and useful cover with pockets and a closure to keep everything secure. There are 2 sizes to choose from too. The larger size fits a Composition Note Book and the smaller size fits a Moleskine planner. I had to look up Moleskine to see what it was exactly, since I wasn't sure, lol!

You can add 2 pockets sizes to the inside of these covers or choose just one or not add a pocket at all if you don't want one. These were easy to make, but of course as a tester I found some things needed to be a larger size, or a smaller size or just needed to be clarified more, etc. That's why as a designer it is so good to have others test your patterns. By the time a customer buys a pattern that has been tested, the instructions will be perfectly clear. To see all the covers from the testers you can go here. Here are Sara's links to her shop and Etsy if you would like to purchase this or any of her patterns.

Here are the large and small covers that I made:
This is the large cover to fit the Composition Notebook, shown here.

I made these brown smaller pockets a bit differently than the pattern instructions say to make them. It was a bit thick though on the sides and bottom for turning. I usually make my pockets like this if I were sewing binding around the outside. So on the smaller cover I made the patch pockets as per the instructions.

This is the smaller notebook cover.

I made my own notebook to fit this cover using card stock and paper. I sewed the patch pockets here as per the patterns instructions. The patch pocket was easier to sew this way. Although mine is a bit crooked, lol!!! Oops.

I used a key ring for the ring here. You can use whatever ring you have on hand.
