17 Mini Composition Notebook Covers

I was searching for a post that I thought I had shared a year ago about these Mini Composition Notebook Covers and I couldn't find the post. Well, duh I guess I never even shared these before, so no wonder I couldn't find them! Well here they are at last.

I got the mini composition notebooks at Walmart. They come in a pack of 3 for about $1.25. I wanted to make mostly Southwest prints and I thought I might make them for gifts or to sell, but I apparently put them away in a special "easy to find place" that turns out was NOT so easy to find as I cannot find them! 😭 I should have written down in my mini comp book where I put them! I will keep searching for them.

4 with the same exterior fabrics.

2 books open to see inside
Inside I used 2 different fabrics.

3 covers
I love that one with the circles even if it is not Southwest. The center is a Route 66 print. The hot air balloons are considered Southwest here in New Mexico as Albuquerque is home to the annual International Balloon Fiesta each October. The balloon one I made first, so I made a fabric closing tab for it and then switched to using vinyl tabs for the rest, along with plastic snaps.

2 covers
Southwest Margheritas.

Of course New Mexicans love chile peppers of all kinds, especially fire roasted Hatch green chile! It is chile roasting season here right now too. Yum!

one cover that is mine
This is the one I kept. I made the closing tabs on all of them with a tiny piece of vinyl and a plastic snap.

The North Pond Notebook Cover

I recently tested a notebook cover for Sara of Radiant Home Studio. This is a really cute and useful cover with pockets and a closure to keep everything secure. There are 2 sizes to choose from too. The larger size fits a Composition Note Book and the smaller size fits a Moleskine planner. I had to look up Moleskine to see what it was exactly, since I wasn't sure, lol!

You can add 2 pockets sizes to the inside of these covers or choose just one or not add a pocket at all if you don't want one. These were easy to make, but of course as a tester I found some things needed to be a larger size, or a smaller size or just needed to be clarified more, etc. That's why as a designer it is so good to have others test your patterns. By the time a customer buys a pattern that has been tested, the instructions will be perfectly clear. To see all the covers from the testers you can go here. Here are Sara's links to her shop and Etsy if you would like to purchase this or any of her patterns.

Here are the large and small covers that I made:
This is the large cover to fit the Composition Notebook, shown here.

I made these brown smaller pockets a bit differently than the pattern instructions say to make them. It was a bit thick though on the sides and bottom for turning. I usually make my pockets like this if I were sewing binding around the outside. So on the smaller cover I made the patch pockets as per the instructions.

This is the smaller notebook cover.

I made my own notebook to fit this cover using card stock and paper. I sewed the patch pockets here as per the patterns instructions. The patch pocket was easier to sew this way. Although mine is a bit crooked, lol!!! Oops.

I used a key ring for the ring here. You can use whatever ring you have on hand.

Fabric Notebook Cover

I made this notebook cover for my grandson. I had made Amy Bradley's Dazzling Dogs quilt and gave it to him and asked him what dog he would like on his notebook and he chose this dog. I used up scraps of fabrics for the background.

Quilted Notebook Cover

I made a quilted notebook cover for my friend Tara's birthday. Tara loves "tea" so I did a play on words and wrote, "Tea is for Tara" on the cover with an appliqued teapot I made. The back has appliqued flowers in a teacup. Shown here opened to see the front & back view:
