Twister Quilt

I love making Twister quilts! I have made several in the past. I usually use the 5" size Twister Tool to cut the Twister Pinwheels, but this time I used the 6.5" size and I like the larger pinwheel effect. I may try doing the next Twister with even larger blocks.

This quilt measures 36" x 36". I backed it in a bright yellow flannel. I grabbed all the pieces of fabric scraps that I had that were large enough to put into this quilt. I put it in the gift shop to sell it, so we'll see what happens. If it doesn't sell then it will be donated to Project Linus. That is always a great option for me to donate something that doesn't sell and I would say more than half of what I take there doesn't sell for whatever reason, I really don't know? I price them about or even cheaper than someone could make their own quilt so that is sells. It is easier to try sell at the giftshop than to sell online, which for me is much harder to do. I want to spend my time sewing and creating, rather than promoting myself all over the internet! 😜The time doing that takes away the joy and the time that I have to create and sew. Okay enough of that and on with the Twister Quilt!

Let's do the Twist!😁

*Update: This quilt sold at the gift shop! Yay! I thought it was good enough to sell, but you never know. I priced it cheap enough, but they don't always sell.

Simply Charming Twister Tote

Hello Bag Lovers & Twister Quilt aficionados. Now that Christmas is over I can share a custom bag order that I made using the Lil' Twister Tool from Around the Bobbin and the Simply Charming Twister Tote pattern that is also from Around the Bobbin too.

A good repeat customer who loves my work (it's so nice to hear that from people who buy bags from me, especially when they buy more than once) asked me to make this tote for her daughter for Christmas and told me to choose any color. I love to choose fabric colors and I chose to use a variety of batik fabrics to make this bag.

I added the hardware D-rings and rivets and purse feet too that were not part of the pattern. I also quilted the entire bag instead of just the Twister part. I think it looks better that way. I love how it turned out!

Front of the bag.

The back of the bag has a few different batik colors of the Twister Pinwheels.

Variegated colored thread for the quilting.

Has to have a Handmade label. Limited Edition is right! It is limited to just this one bag as I won't repeat it in the same fabrics ever again. One of a kind bag for sure!

Side view to show the depth of the bag.

The bottom of the bag with 6 purse feet.

Interior of tote
The tote closes with a magnetic snap closure and the tote can open really wide.

Interior of tote showing zipper pocket
I added a zipper pocket inside too.

Interior of tote showing the slip pockets
I added a large slip pocket that I divided in half with a narrow pen pocket at each end.

I love Twister blocks! They make for great bags and quilts. Linda, I hope your daughter loved this tote!

Twister Gnome Table Runner now has 2 Sizes

I love this Twister Gnome Table Runner from Around the Bobbin. I made one a few years ago and sold it. Lisa (from ATB) decided to include a smaller size in her pattern, so I tested this for her. It measures 11" x 29", so it's slightly smaller than her original runner which measures 15" x 39". So now you can choose the size you want to make to fit your table best.

I had an Ombre fabric and I wondered how it would look if I used it for making the Twister pinwheels. Well it came out great! I really love the look and think I will make some more Twisters in Ombre fabric again.

I love these cute gnomes. I used different reds for their hats and gave 3 gnomes white beards and 3 gnomes gray beards. See next photo too:

I quilted 1/4" from the seams on the Twister side and used a serpentine stitch on the right side of the runner.

While I used the Ombre fabric on the cut squares that you sew together, I didn't have enough for the border, so I used a yellow/green fabric that blended perfectly.

The Mini Twister tool is needed to cut the pieced squares into the Twister sections.

The runner with the applique gnomes at each end and the Twister pinwheels looks so good, especially in the Ombre fabric!!

Lil' Twister Trip-Around-the-World Quilt

This is the 3rd Lil' Twister quilt that I have made. I tested out this technique on a small runner size first, then made one in random Civil War Reproduction fabrics for my husband and now I had to try this one starting with a Trip-Around-the-World top first. These are kind of addicting to make. Because it starts off as squares like this:
1st a Trip-Around-the-World quilt top...

...and after you cut and re-sew, it looks like this. It's essentially tessellating pinwhells. I thought it was a great idea to start with a Trip-Around-the-World quilt top first. I saw a quilt like this last week here: Quilting by the River. Connie, from Quilting by the River calls hers Worldy Twist Quilt.

A closer look.

But wait there's more...you have leftovers after you cut the pinwheel shapes and you end up with enough leftover squares to make a small doll size quilt top. So now I have a miniature version of what I started out with, except that I don't have enough of the yellow print fabric to add a border to this as I am using what's left of that fabric to bind the larger quilt. I'll find another fabric if I decide to add a border to this one.
Now I just need to quilt them.

Magnolia Branches & Lil' Twister

Magnolia Branches. I fused the background fabrics to batting and quilted it all over. Then I fused the magnolia appliques on top and stitched them in place. Rather than bind the quilt, I decided to sew with a facing instead.

This is one of those Lil' Twister quilts. My friend Bobbie showed our small group how to use the Lil' Twister template. I made my own template from plastic and then made this small quilt to test out the technique. You can Google Lil' Twister and find several tutorials online. I am finishing another one that I will post soon.
