Wool Appliqué Scarecrow Wall Quilt (I'm Falling for You Blog Hop)

I started this scarecrow wool appliqué a year or 2 ago (I can't even remember, since the years are flying by). I found it in my pile of UFO's. The center scarecrow appliqué was the only thing done, but I still needed to make it into to something. I decided to add a border with the word Autumn on the right side. The lettering is felt, so I hand blanket stitched around the letters, like I did around all the rest of the appliqué shapes too. I added some rickrack, 4 flower buttons and then sewed the backing and birthed it. I topstitched around the wall quilt and hand quilted around the appliqué shapes. 

Scarecrows are my favorite Autumn decoration.

I used a variety of wool, both felt and woven wool and even some knit sweaters I washed in hot water and felted (or actually fulled, which is the correct term).

The letters are felt and hand blanket stitched in place.

All hand stitched, even the quilting around the appliqué motifs.

A Thankful Twist Table Runner

I tested this table runner, A Thankful Twist, for Around the Bobbin. Lisa made her sample with a background color and a second color for the twister pinwheels. But I wanted to use a variety of fall colors for the pinwheels, so I pulled out some fall scraps to make the pinwheels and a background fabric. I used a fabric for the vertical side strips that had all the fall colors.

The pattern has the wording Give Thanks that I appliqued, but also included a variety of leaf appliques that were supposed to be appliqued. However, my leaves didn't really show up when I placed them down. The leaf colors were the same as the twister pinwheels (although different prints). So I decided to leave the leaves off my runner. I love how this runner looks and how the twister pinwheels appear to be dancing around the runner. It also looks great with the leaves if you were to choose one twister color and the background. Lisa liked my version as a variation to choose from so she included my quilt photo in the pattern and even added the instructions on how to make it scrappy. I am honored!

Either way, it is a great runner and fun to make. I just love making twister quilts! Those twister pinwheels are so happy looking to me. As I was appliqueing the wording of Give Thanks, I thought how you could make this runner in different colors and add other wording or applique motifs, such as Happy Birthday with balloons or cake. How about Saint Patrick's Day in greens with a rainbow or pot of gold? Merry Christmas in red and green. Patriotic American holidays using red, white and blue colors. So if you buy this pattern, don't have to limit yourself to just Thanksgiving; and that way you can make so many other runners by just changing the colors and adding different wording or applique motifs in the center.

I played with adding some color saturation to make this photo look more golden. The background fabric looks a little darker here because I darkened the photo..

Hoot & Holler Owl Table Runner

When I saw this adorable table runner on the Wooden Bear Pattern site, I loved it and had to make one. I have a round table, so of course this runner won't work on my table, but it is for sale in my Etsy Shop. SOLD at a local shop in 2021!!!

I will be making myself a round version, including about 3 owls and maybe some pumpkins too. I hope it will turn out looking as cute as this runner does. If I start soon, it should be done by next Autumn, you think?

I used mostly batik fabrics in making this runner. I just love batik fabrics! I added buttons for his eyes and colorful buttons along the scalloped edges too and a bit of hand embroidery for the scarf fringe. This Hooty Owl is all bundled up for the cold weather and ready to dress up your dining room table.

I added colorful buttons on the scallop.

I love how the button eyes gives this owl such personality.

A branch of leaves and acorns make this an Autumn table runner, but it's cute enough to use any time of the year.

Autumn Reflections Lap Quilt

I won a set of fat 1/8's last year when I entered a lot of my bags in the Bag It 2017 linky from Elm Street Quilts. The fabric line was called Autumn Reflections and I thought that was a good name for this quilt. I made this quilt in a square version in bright colors several months ago. I gave this lap quilt to Mr. P. It is backed with soft flannel.
The quilt pattern is called Native Rainbow and is from the book, Batik Beauties. I used all the fat 1/8's except the ones that read as a solid. I used fabric I already had for the triangles, 2 borders and binding.

I just quilted it with straight line quilting.

Sage green flannel backing.
