Llama Pincushion

My daughter had put this llama planter in her give away donation box. When I saw it, I immediately thought this would make a great pincushion! So I snatched it out of the box. It came with a tiny plastic pot, but I didn't need that.

I love wool pincushions the best as they really grip your pins and needles and feel so nice using. Years ago when I went to the annual Taos wool Festival in Taos, NM, there was a vendor selling the prettiest bright colors of dyed roving. Well I don't spin wool (did decades ago for a short time), but I like to use roving to make felted items, so I bought a a couple of bags. One was a purple-blue color, one a bright blue. The purple blue I used for the pincushion truck I posted recently. I used the bright blue for this llama. 

I dry felted it using a felting needle. When I got the basic size and shape started, I then placed the wool ball into the planter and kept felting it, so it would be snug up against the sides. But before I placed it in the planter, I added a handful of marbles to the planter to weigh it down first. Now it is the perfect pincushion and I love it!

Scrappy Log Cabin Free Form Pieced Quilt~ Project Linus Donation

Lots of variety in the scraps I used for this quilt. I tend to make a one or 2 color scrappy quilt usually, but then there are those fabrics that have 3 or more colors in each print, so it's time to use those all in one quilt for a colorful and wild scrappy quilt. There is Halloween prints, Southwest prints, African print, florals and more in this quilt. I had donated this quilt months ago to Project Linus, but hadn't shared it (I have a few more to share as well soon).

Quilt measures 42" wide x 47 1/2" high.

So scrappy!!!

Scrappy Multi-Colored Quilt

This scrappy quilt was another quilt I donated to Wrap the World With Quilts. I forgot to measure the size of this one, but it is a good size lap quilt.

Used mostly multi-colored scraps to make this quilt.

I did make a small dent in the multi-color fabric scraps.

Flannel llama backing and simple diagonal quilting.

I hope this is a comfort to whoever receives this quilt. 🤗😙.

Llama Print Yarn Bag

I made this yarn bag as requested by a friend of mine. I quilted the fabric to foam stabilizer and added a front slip pocket and a back zippered pocket. Inside is a slip pocket divided in the middle with a pen pocket. I also added purse feet on the bottom to help keep it cleaner, (along with more foam to make it sturdier). I enlarged this bag and made several of my own changes, using Very Shannon's Reversible Box Tote as a starting point for the bag shape. This fabric matches the tool bag I made for her a couple of years ago (see lat photo).

Pieced Batik Quilt with Orange Border

Years and years ago I made these batik quilt blocks. I remember batik fabrics were stacked up and then I cut then with the rotary cutter into several angles. A stack and slice technique. Then I took a piece of fabric from each stack and arranged the block and sewed the blocks together, so all the blocks had one of each fabric in the block, but each was a different shape. The blocks were set next to each other, turning the blocks in different directions. The result was nice like a crazy quilt without the embroidery stitches. But the piece was rather small, so I put it away for many years, not sure what I would do with it. I took it out recently and thought I should finish this, so I cut a border to make the quilt wider and longer and then quilted it with a serpentine stitch. The border really made this quilt look great and it is large enough for a child to cuddle under. I will donate this quilt to Wrap the World with Quilts.

Quilt measures 34.5 " x 44.5".

Sunset Ridge Lap Size Quilt

I used part of a jelly roll to make this quilt and scraps of white and off white for the background fabrics. It measures 46" wide x 60" high. I used polyester batting for warmth and a flannel backing for added softness. My son is coming for a visit and I wanted to make a quilt that would keep him warm on the cold nights we have been having. The jelly roll was from Amazon. The other fabrics I already had. This will be a nice extra quilt to have on hand when needed. Sunset Ridge is a free quilt pattern from Moda Fabrics. I made mine larger than the pattern. It was a quick quilt to make and easy too. I alternated the jelly roll fabrics I had. I could have used one color family per row, but decided to mix them up.

I quilted this quilt with a serpentine stitch.

Knitting Tools Bags

I brought my knitting tool bag in the sheep fabric to my knitting group to show to them. I also brought another one in a llama print fabric too that I keep my sewing notions in. I told the ladies at my group I would make anyone who wanted to buy one of these bags in any color(s) and 2 women liked the sheep fabric, so I made 3 of the sheep ones and varied the interior fabrics. I brought the extra bag in case someone else wanted to buy it and I did sell it too. I have a llama print fabric one that is for sale still with pink binding, but anyone wanting one of these bags, I will make custom to make sure I make it in colors they would want.

I love how handy these bags are to use and that the zipper is the handle too.

I made 2 with this red binding. This is one side .

I added a charm to the exterior zipper. (I don't know what that black mark is on it, maybe a scrap of fabric? It's not there anymore, so that's weird).

I used a polka dot red fabric to bind this one in.
