Wallet For My Daughter

I made my daughter a new wallet to match the bag I made her last year.
I used a brown fabric that I hand dyed for the outside. (*Blogger somehow squashed this photo because it doesn't look so squashed on the photo I took, but only when I added it to my blog. Weird!)
The batik fabric with the palm trees is the fabric that matches the exterior of her bag. I couldn't use it for the exterior of the wallet or the tress would be upside down when the flap was folded over.

Totes Ma Tote

I tested the new Totes Ma Tote Bag that Janelle from Emmaline Bags designed. I made mine in patchwork. The instructions are very easy to follow, even though I made changes on mine. Without pockets on the outside, I thought this would be a perfect place to make patchwork, applique or embroidery. Don't worry there are plenty of inside pockets. Go here to see over a dozen of these beautiful totes made by the testers.
The side of the bag has an accent strip.
I used orange-brown-green fabrics to create a quilt-as-you-go string chevron patchwork for the front and back of the bag.
The other side of the bag. I didn't have grommets so I made a strap and used pieces of Ultra Suede over the ends of the straps and then stitched a blanket stitch around them. I also didn't use buckles on my straps. One reason I didn't is that I didn't have any buckles and the other reason is as a knitter, I was afraid the prongs of those buckles would snag a knit sweater. Believe me I have caught many a sweater in swivel hooks and buckles before; sometimes I get so caught I cannot get the bag off, LOL!!! Those nicer swivel hooks that most bag makers use don't have those lever thingees sticking out, but I don't have those kind unfortunately and my knitwear gets caught. Something to think about when you are a knitter and a bag maker.
There is a recessed zipper.
Inside is a zippered pocket on one side.
A large pocket on the other side of the bag with tab closure. I used a snap, not a magnetic snap here.
Inside the large pocket is a section of slip pockets. I think I might have been the first tester to complete this bag and the way the directions were written is how I sewed my pocket here, however Janelle meant to have you sew the slip pocket over the the zipper pocket. Well that's the reason we testers test those bag, LOL!!! She corrected the instructions for this, but you could sew these pockets however suited you. I like how the slip pockets are inside the large pockets, so it didn't bother me at all that it wasn't meant to be this way.

Postcards for Christine

If you have been following me you know that I have made several fabric quilted postcards recently. I didn't want to show you a couple of them just yet because I waiting for them to arrive in Australia and I wanted it to be a surprise. I just received an email from Christine and yes she was indeed surprised! I made her 2 postcards virtually the same, only I wrote (or tried to write) her business name on one of the cards. If I planned this better I would have written it on the fabric first and then made the card. But it was an afterthought and trying to write on fabric with Peltex thick interfacing underneath made my writing a bit wobbly because that Peltex is a bit bumpy to write on. So I made a second card without a name and just her logo. I figured that way she can decide which she likes or she can mail one of them as a postcard if she wanted to. Here they are~
I found only one cute little white flower button in my button jar and it was perfect, don't you think? Below is Christine's logo:

Here is the postcard without the name written. I quilted the background in swirls. I had a little machine made applique flower to use here instead of a button and I added a French knot in the center.
I also made this one using a batik fabric. I didn't send this one to Christine though. I wanted to see how it would look in another fabric and in the center I used a flower sequin with round sequin on top and added a French knot. Don't you love her bag logo? I sure do!

I encourage those of you who link up here to write a really good descriptive title so that we know what you are linking, since there are no thumbnail photos. If it is a quilt, please use quilt in the title. If it is a bag, use bag in the title and so on. That might help those who are looking to click on the titles that might interest them. Thank you so much!

Quilt For Mouse

My grandson has a favorite stuffed toy, which is Mouse, from the book If You Give a Mouse a Cookie.
This is Mouse. My grandson asked me to sew on some "real" buttons one day for Mouse because the felt buttons were coming apart. So now Mouse is quite fancy with his new real buttons.
This is the cover of the book.
He sleeps with Mouse and he wanted a quilt and a bed made for Mouse. I wanted him to get involved with making the quilt, so I asked him what colors and he said all the colors, except pink and purple. Then I cut out the fabric and he sat on my lap as we sewed the pieces together. He told me it was fun, but we only sewed a few sections and the next time he came over I asked him if he wanted to sew some more of Mouse's quilt and he said no. I think it was more work than he had expected. I asked him if he wanted me to finish making the quilt for Mouse and he said yes. So I finished it and gave it to Mouse. While it's too warm for Mouse to use right now, I am sure Mouse will love his quilt in the colder months. I am working on making a pillow/mattress right now for Mouse. You see sometimes Mouse just wants to sleep in his own bed and not with my grandson, at least this was what I was told.
This is Mouse's quilt.
I backed Mouse's quilt with a flannel plaid.
Here is Mouse and his new quilt. He is happy, although a bit too hot right now. Mouse has a pocket on his overalls where he keeps special notes that are written to him.
