2 String Quilt Table Runners

I had started out making some blue string blocks and some red string blocks to make a red and blue scrappy string baby or lap quilt, depending on how many blocks I ended up with. Then I changed my mind and just wanted to do something with what I had already made and decided on making 2 table runners instead and be done with them. I do have a few red and blue blocks leftover, so they might become purse flaps for the purses I donate or some kind of appliqué? I'll see when I get to them later.

Glad I finished these. The blue one was done first and is for sale at the gift shop. If it sells, I will take the red one in or add it to my PayHip Shop soon.

There is something so satisfying about making string blocks and turning them into quilts of any size.

A simple serpentine stitch works great for quilting these runners.

Now that I am looking at this, I should have swapped one of those blocks with the checks on the right with one of the blocks with the red and tiny white dots on the left to balance it out more. Oh well, sometimes I just want to finish something so I can move on and I guess this was one of those times.🙄

I used the serpentine stitch to quilt this red runner too.

I like the red musical fabric for the backing. I forgot to take a photo of the backing for the blue. I used a tiny plaid print of blue with a touch of red for the blue runner backing.

Southwest Stars Table Runner

I made this table runner over a month ago and recently quilted and added the binding on it. I took it to the gift shop where I sell things and it should sell there eventually as Southwest items do very well there.

I really liked making this star block (Spinning Star?) and it's fun to see how it looks in different colors. I made some of these stars for the SAHRR quilt (2025) where I added 2 rows on my quilt. The completed quilted SAHRR will be shared soon, as will all the others who have finished their SAHRR quilts, so be looking for it.

Southwest fabric prints in batik, plus the orange rust and cream color fabrics are batik and the binding is batik fabric too.

I like how there is a secondary star in the rust orange color that appears as you sew together the blocks. Plus, the brown frames both the turquoise stars as well as the rust orange stars.

A simple serpentine stitch was used for the quilting.

The backing is a Southwest print of Indian arrows. This is not batik fabric though.

Kokopelli Table Runner #2

I made a second Kokopelli scrappy pieced table runner because I still had lots of the Kokopelli squares and batik scraps. The first one I made I took to the gift shop on Monday and it sold on Wednesday!!! That is the fastest anything has ever sold there, since they are closed on Monday for intake and closed on Tuesday too. Of course I think I will increase the price for the next one by a few dollars, as I sold it too cheap, but I wanted to see if it would sell at all. Now that it did sell, was it a fluke? Or would another one sell too? I guess I will find out after I make a third one. I need to have a few more of my things sell before I can bring in more stuff anyhow, so that give me time to make another one or two more.

I was planning on showing this table runner in a fiber art show at the beginning of next year in a group I belong to, but maybe I need to make a third runner? It is a great scrap buster, so I love that I am using up my batik scraps, well some of my scraps as the bag that holds my scraps doesn't look very empty, just a little less plump 😂!

I also took in a couple of the cross body purses that I make for Sew Powerful that I put a Kokopelli square in the middle and sewed scraps around it. If either of those 2 purses sell, I will donate the money received to Sew Powerful charity. I will share those purses soon here on the blog.

Lone Pine Christmas Tree Table Runner

I have been wanting to make this table runner called the Lone Pine, since I first got the pattern for it a few years ago. Well I finally got it done. It is made using the X-Block ruler so it makes it faster and easier to assemble. This is another runner I made for my sister.

I stitched in the ditch in around the border fabrics to anchor the runner in place before doing free motion quilting. But it still puckered a bit. I don't know why some of my quilts come out great when quilting and others just don't lie flat and want to pucker! It sure frustrates me when the top looks so good and then after the quilting it doesn't look that great to me. I spend so much time making quilts large and small, and I really hate to ruin it with quilting, but sometimes the puckering doesn't happen until I am well into it. No I won't rip that much quilting out! Besides there is no guarantee it won't pucker the 2nd time around. I hope my sister loves this. Maybe after washing it, it will all pucker and look better. I didn't want to wash it first because it might look like I gave her a used runner?

I made the runner larger with more trees than the pattern called for. Overall I like this runner's look. I quilted the border in a variegated thread.

I actually went in and covered up the white stitching across the trunks by using a brown Sharpie marker, which looks better. Did that after I took these photos.
