Sew Powerful Purse #170 (2026)

This purse flap I made using the X-Blocks ruler. I love this setting the best from the blocks that I have tried. I set the quilt block on point and added scraps all around to bring the flap up to size. I have been making straps with any leftovers if I have enough fabric leftover and I sometimes add other fabrics to make the strap long enough. It is a bit time consuming to make the strap versus just cutting a length of webbing, but I like the fabric straps better than webbing straps, although the webbing is much cheaper, doesn't require interfacing and like I said, quicker to use.

Donating to Sew Powerful Purse Project.

Here is how the entire flap looks before folding a couple of inches to the back of the bag. As you can see the top of the flap is never seen from the front.

Southwest Stars Table Runner

I made this table runner over a month ago and recently quilted and added the binding on it. I took it to the gift shop where I sell things and it should sell there eventually as Southwest items do very well there.
I really liked making this star block (Spinning Star?) and it's fun to see how it looks in different colors. I made some of these stars for the SAHRR quilt (2025) where I added 2 rows on my quilt. The completed quilted SAHRR will be shared soon, as will all the others who have finished their SAHRR quilts, so be looking for it.

Southwest fabric prints in batik, plus the orange rust and cream color fabrics are batik and the binding is batik fabric too.

I like how there is a secondary star in the rust orange color that appears as you sew together the blocks. Plus, the brown frames both the turquoise stars as well as the rust orange stars.

A simple serpentine stitch was used for the quilting.

The backing is a Southwest print of Indian arrows. This is not batik fabric though.

Lone Pine Christmas Tree Table Runner

I have been wanting to make this table runner called the Lone Pine, since I first got the pattern for it a few years ago. Well I finally got it done. It is made using the X-Block ruler so it makes it faster and easier to assemble. This is another runner I made for my sister.

I stitched in the ditch in around the border fabrics to anchor the runner in place before doing free motion quilting. But it still puckered a bit. I don't know why some of my quilts come out great when quilting and others just don't lie flat and want to pucker! It sure frustrates me when the top looks so good and then after the quilting it doesn't look that great to me. I spend so much time making quilts large and small, and I really hate to ruin it with quilting, but sometimes the puckering doesn't happen until I am well into it. No I won't rip that much quilting out! Besides there is no guarantee it won't pucker the 2nd time around. I hope my sister loves this. Maybe after washing it, it will all pucker and look better. I didn't want to wash it first because it might look like I gave her a used runner?

I made the runner larger with more trees than the pattern called for. Overall I like this runner's look. I quilted the border in a variegated thread.

I actually went in and covered up the white stitching across the trunks by using a brown Sharpie marker, which looks better. Did that after I took these photos.

Diamond Jewels Quilt

I finished this lap quilt last month. I used the X-Block ruler to create this quilt. I chose batik fabrics in aqua, turquoise, and orange and white and cream fabrics in regular cotton fabric. I didn't add a border, just sewed on the binding. The X-Block ruler allows you to sew blocks and then cut them with the ruler to create a more complex looking block. The cut off pieces are supposed to be saved and used for the border. I didn't really want a border so I didn't use those cut off pieces. I backed the quilt with a soft flannel fabric. I gave this quilt to my husband and he loves it.

I want to try making some other quilts using the X-Block ruler because it is fun and there are some great looking quilts that you can get from using this ruler.

I quilted the colorful batik sections only. With all those seams it felt a bit like I was jack-hammering!!! So I only quilted along the edge of the white fabrics.

Soft flannel for the backing.
