Mug Rugs & Coaster

I love making mug rugs and coasters, so when Carla from Creatin' in the Sticks announced this blog hop, I knew I had to jump right in. Thanks Carla.

I knew right away I want to make a couple of record coasters. So I grabbed 3 sizes of circle die cuts from Crafter's Edge and cut perfect circles quickly. I love the circle dies the best because they do cut perfect circles every time!

The fabric with the text was made by using a stamp and fabric ink.

I made a second record mug rug.

These were fun and easy to make.

Next I used my Crafter's Edge Hexagon die cut to make this double-sided coaster. This side shows yummy raspberries.

The flip side is oranges. I added a heavyweight interfacing inside the coaster for stability. I stitched the 2 sides together by hand.

Shown with my favorite little Starbucks stainless steel mug.

I used the Crossover II die cut machine from Crafter's Edge and the Circles and Hexagon die cuts to create these mug rugs and coaster.

Snug as a Mug on a Rug & Hedgehog & Hare Teething Rings

I had the pleasure of testing  Snug as a Mug on a Rug and the teething rings from Around the Bobbin, recently. First, the Snug as a Mug on a Rug, which is a fun and useful item to not only sew, but to use.
The pattern shows 3 ways to create the mug rug: fussy cut a fabric, or 2 different pieced blocks. But I decided for the first mug rug I made, I wanted to highlight an appliqué flower, using the Large Die Cut Flower set from Crafter's Edge. So I guess you could say there are certainly more ways you can create the block on your mug rug if you want to get a bit more creative. Here are my mug rugs:

The Crafter's Edge large flower die cut looks great on this mug rug. It was fun to appliqué the flower too. I used the same text fabric in the flower background under the silicone too. Sewing through the silicone is easy to do. Sews like butter.

You place your mug onto the silicone part, so the mug can be really hot and the silicone will take the heat just fine.

The second mug rug I made using the Square-in-a-Square block which is one of the choices in the pattern. But to make it faster and easier to cut and sew, I again used my Crafter's Edge die cuts in the sizes as per the pattern. I used the square and half square triangle die cuts. The die cuts worked perfectly to make this little block. I went fruity with my scraps of fruit fabrics: raspberries, bananas, blueberries for the block and under the silicone I used a lemon & blueberry print.

Next up is the Hedgehog & Hare pattern, which includes 2 silicone rings that are safe for baby. These teething rings are quick and easy to make. The hedgehog is Velcroed to the ring so can be removed for washing. The Hare is attached with an easy slip knot, also making it easy to remove for washing. I made both using soft flannel, but Minky is another fabric suggested in the pattern.

The Hare is a sweet little guy with added ribbon for baby to touch and play with.

The Hare is sweet with those tall ears. You can even add a crinkle material to make noise and add a texture for baby to grab. I didn't have the crinkle material so the ears are just flannel.

Not only soft to the touch for cuddling, but the teething ring is great for baby to hold and chew on with the several textures on the rings. Plus if baby drops them, they are easy for mom or dad to find.
Check out the testers versions here.

Both the Snug as a Mug on a Rug and the Hedgehog & Hare patterns come with 2 silicone pieces for each pattern. On sale for just a few days, so hurry! Coupon code is NEWNEW Thursday 11/4 - 11/7 for 25% off. (Refills are available for each pattern too).

Halloween Mug Rug

Welcome to the Witchy Stitchy Blog Hop, hosted by Carol Of Just Let Me Quilt (and her side kick Creepy Bunny, lol!). If you've never been to Carol's blog before, you will have to pop over today and check out creepy bunny, who is always there during Halloween, right Carol? Carol is also showing her creation today as well, so I do hope you visit her.

This is the mug rug I made and since my applique group was also making this mug rug last month, I thought this would be great as my blog hop project too. It's called Spoolie Jack. It was fun to make and I only used my batik scraps (except for the background) for making this mug rug.

The heads of the pins are hot fix studs, which were perfect for this project.

I turned this one below into neon just for fun!

Here is the whole list of blogs to visit. Please be sure to leave them A SWEET comment.

Bee Mug & Matching Mug Rug

I made a mug rug to match my mug. Several years ago we bought a set of 6 mugs at Costco and 2 are bees, 2 are dragonflies and 2 are lady bugs. I think I will make more mug rugs to match the other 2 as well. I appliqued and embroidered the bees. I happened to have some small pieces of the 2 blue fabrics and they worked perfectly for this. I made this using just scraps.

Happy Birthday Susan!

My friend Susan's birthday is today. This is what I sent her~
This is the "gift wrapping" for the presents (below) that I made for Susan.

This is the fabric for the main body of the drawstring bag. Perfect fabric, isn't it?

This started out as a mug rug. I wanted to make wool felt appliques on a cotton fabric background. I added a felt wavy border but that wasn't quite right, so I added some rick rack and French knots on top of the rick rack. It still needed something and so I added the lace all around it. Now I am not sure if it would even work as a mug rug or a small placemat or a wall quilt? I suppose Susan will have to decide how to use it.

Closer look at the wool embroidered appliques.

And the no-calorie cupcake, with sprinkles on top.

Susan loves sea turtles and so I made this large turtle pincushion. I stuffed with poly stuffing and then added a lot of crushed walnut shells to weight it down. It could also be used as a toy for any future granchildren Susan might have.

Front view.

Belly view. I sewed my label on by hand as an after thought.

Top view. I added the button on top just for fun.
