Flip & Fill Fabric Baskets

I tested these cute baskets for Around the Bobbin Patterns. I love that these baskets can fold flat when not in use. You just flip them to make them flat and then flip them back to fill them up, hence the name Flip & Fill.

I made these using 2 fabrics and I alternated the medium size fabric by using the dark purple print as the interior and the light print for the exterior, whereas the small and large sizes have the dark purple exterior and lighter interior print. These stand up because of the foam stabilizer used, but easily fold flat when not in use.

Scroll to the end for the discount code of 25% off the pattern.

They stack nicely too.

They would be fabulous for travel too when you need a place to put your small belongings in while in the hotel room and then flip and flatten them back into the suitcase when you pack up to leave.

I have been using my medium Flip & Fill Basket to put some sewing tools in while I am sewing outside on the patio now that the weather is warm. I love hearing the birds singing and splashing in the birdbath 😄while I sew.

Stand & Store Baskets

Hello Basket lovers. The Stand & Store Baskets from Around the Bobbin are so practical, easy to sew, have a drawstring, a cuff, come in 4 sizes (Itty Bitty, Small, Medium & Large) and are so darn cute too! Why not make a few for yourself? The pattern is on SALE right now too! Coupon code SAS15 for 15% off the pattern, good through Sunday June 12 CDT.

You can use these baskets to hold almost anything. The Itty Bitty is great for holding your sewing clips, and the large and extra large make a nice project bag for knitting, crochet or hand embroidery and more. The small and medium sizes will hold so many other things too, so pick the size you need and sew one up.

I tested the Medium & Large sizes:
Medium & Extra with their cuffs folded down.

View of the inside of the large bag. There are mesh divided pockets to hold even more stuff.

This is the inside of the medium bag. Same as the large, except a bit smaller. The only sized that doesn't have the mesh pockets is the Itty Bitty as it's just too itty bitty, lol!

I put up the cuff on the large size and pulled the drawstring closed so you can see and compare how it looks and functions compared to the medium size that still has it's cuff folded down.

Here both bags have drawstrings closed. This makes it great for transporting your basket that might be filled with stuff so the contents stay inside as you carry it elsewhere. Then when you need to access the contents, fold the cuff back down.

You can even nest the 4 sizes inside one another, if you make all 4 sizes. Great way to store the baskets when not in use.

The large is a great knitting project bag. My knit socks are in progress. I pulled the items up to the top to photograph.

Here the items are down inside the bag and you can see there is plenty of room for my knit project and pockets to hold my counter and more.

These baskets are so handy and useful and would make a great gift or even a great gift wrapping! Get the pattern while it's still on sale. And check out the tester's versions too here.

Podlets & Orange You Glad Blog Hop

Thanks to Carla (of Creatin' in the Sticks) for hosting this blog hop. This is all about Orange, the color or the fruit or something that inspires you.

I thought about what to make for this blog hop for a long time. In the meanwhile, I got orders to make the water bottle slings that I shared with you on the last blog hop, It's a Guy Thing. I need to make 5 water bottle slings for 2 customers. But I still hadn't made or even decided on my Orange project yet. I didn't want to bail out, so I just happened to find the perfect project and the timing was perfect too.  Along came this fast and easy project: Podlets.

Spencer Ogg designed these Podlets to be fast and easy and I can assure you that they are just that. Take a couple pieces of fabric, interface them, fold, press, snip, press, clip, sew, press and turn them and topstitch and you just made a little fabric basket or Podlet all in about 10-15 minutes or less. And the cool part is they fold flat so you can store them when not in use.

These Podlets can hold sorts of items, depending on the size you make. Spencer Ogg has a pdf with a few sizes you can try, but she encourages you to come up with your own sizes too. The instructions are on her video and the pdf is on her Facebook page. She shows how to make the large size on her video and gives you the cut sizes, so even if you aren't on Facebook, you can follow the video and make her larger size. The instructions for all sizes are the same, except for the cut size fabrics differ for each size and the measurement that folds up on the lining may be different for different sizes.

I made a couple of the square Podlets in a fabric that is oranges of course. I used a yellow lining for both. I chose this size based on the width I had of the oranges fabric.

Here is a Podlet filled with plastic sewing clips. You can use these to hold so many fun and useful things.

Such yummy looking oranges fabric.

Fabric baskets in oranges fabric print: one is folded flat and the other one has plastic clips for sewing inside
One Podlet is filled with plastic sewing clips and the other is folded flat. You can store a lot of Podlets when they are stored flat. Bonus: folding them flat makes it so much easier to mail, especially in a plastic envelope. Think gifts!

Fabric baskets in oranges fabric print that are reversible. One shown with lining yellow fabric on the outside
Another BONUS is they are completely reversible! If you use 2 really pretty colors, you can reverse as the mood strikes. I think the oranges fabric makes a better exterior on mine, since I chose a pale yellow for the lining. (These aren't really suitable for directional fabrics though, so keep that in mind.)

The basket on the right is shown upside down with the bottom showing on the top. See those folded slits on the sides? That is what makes the basket fold flat.

The basket on the right if you peek inside shows the triangles that form on the lining side (again this is what makes the basket fold flat).

Fabric baskets in oranges fabric print with one basket placed over the other basket acting as a lid.
Just for fun I wondered if one basket could fit on top of the other like a lid and it does! So it you needed a lid for your basket, just make 2 baskets like I did.

So there you have it. My fast, easy, useful & fun Podlet project (in orange of course). I hope you will try and make some for yourself. I would love to see them if you do.

And if you are reading this on my posted day of August 17th, today just happens to be Mr. P and my anniversary (41 years married!). We never do anything special, so it's just a normal day for us.

Small and Shorty A Tisket, A Tasket Baskets

I made a couple of fabric baskets out of fabric. These are A Tisket, A Tasket Baskets designed by Liz (Moments by Liz). If you join her Facebook group the pdf is free in the files. The pattern includes 3 sizes of baskets (small-medium-large, plus the bonus shorty size). I made a large size basket quite a while ago. I wanted to try the shorty size to see in person how it looked. It is shorter in height, but it is quite roomy in width. I also made a small size as well, using up some fabric pieces that were just the sizes I needed. I love baskets, bins, bowls to hold all kinds of items and these also use up miscellaneous sizes of fabric scraps (that I have plenty of) and they are fat quarter friendly as well.

In addition to fabric, you need foam, batting, fleece, or interfacing to give it some structure. I used fusible batting in these, which worked nicely.

The small size measures 5" wide x 4" high x 3 1/2" deep. The shorty size measures 10" wide x 5" high x 5" deep.

This is the shorty size basket. As you can see, you quilted the lining, which helps to give the structure to the basket along with the stabilizer you choose to use.

Pretty roomy inside.

Here is the shorty on the left and the small on the right for comparison. The small is a tad shorter in height.

This is one side of the basket where the fabric has more gray in the print.

This is the other side of the basket fabric where there is more white in the print.

These were fun to make and another way to use up some fabric. Not sure if I will use these myself or add them to my craft show inventory. I do need to make myself a large one to hold all my paper templates for bags (I store each pattern piece in a large clear zip bag), so that will be the next one I make.

Both of these baskets have SOLD.

Snap it Up Baskets

I cannot believe I had forgotten all about posting these baskets! I showed you some in plastic I made recently, but then I was asked about fabric ones, and I couldn't find them on my blog, so duh, I forgot to share these with you.

These Snap it Up Baskets are a Moments by Liz pdf and they come in several sizes on her Facebook group (in the files for free) or the 5" x 7" x 3" size only in her Etsy Shop. Now I won't be able to tell you what size each basket is since I forgot all about posting these and do you think I can remember which sizes I made? LOL! I can tell you they aren't hard to make and you can make in all one fabric or choose a different fabric for the lining. They can be snapped up with the lining out or in, so they can be reversed.

These baskets are great because when not in use they store flat. When you need a basket then you snap it up, hence the name. They would be great for travel as they fit in a suitcase flat and then you snap it up to hold your various items, such as your cosmetics in the bathroom. They would also be great made in holiday fabrics to hold candies or napkins, keys, etc. So many ideas come to mind. Plus they make fun gifts too.
Here are a few that I made back in February. I have several more that I just need to finish the final sewing and add the snaps and then I can show you some more another day.

This was the first basket I made in all one fabric print.

I had made a free form patchwork piece and it was just the right size for making this basket. It's on the outside in this photo.

I unsnapped it here.

This is the patchwork side of the basket, unsnapped.

The patchwork side snapped to be the lining side here.

I made 2 baskets in the same fabrics, so I can show you how they look both  unsnapped and snapped.

Same fabrics in 2 different sized baskets.

When you make several sizes and snap them up, the smallest size can nest inside the next size up and so on up to the largest size.

If you join Liz's Facebook group, you can get all the basket sizes for free that are in the files section in about 3 separate pdf's. Plus she has other free pdf's in the files too. Pin It Now!
