Flower Embroidery in a Hoop

I finished this embroidery that I started last year in December 2025. After hurting my ribcage, I needed some handwork to do, so this was a great reason to get started on this embroidery. I have also been knitting a lot too. Sewing at the machine is now happening slowly and for short periods of time until I am 100% better. I am getting there.

I hadn't done any hand embroidery in a long time! I thought this was a pretty one. It was a kit from Amazon. The embroidery floss that came with the kit wasn't the best quality though and I think it may have been polyester thread instead of cotton, but it didn't say. It came with 2 needles (not great needle quality and not very sharp needles either) and even little scissors (the scissors were not sharp or very good and could barely cut the thread), a needle threader that really didn't work with the needle size and threads used in the kit, and a plastic hoop, which was fine.

This is the back of the hoop embroidery. I stamped a couple of stamps and wrote the month/year I completed this piece. I glued the stiff fabric to the hoop edge to cover up the back of the embroidery stitches.

Hot Air Balloon Quilt in Embroidery Hoop

I made this Hot Air Balloon appliqué and set it into an embroidery hoop to frame it. I really like how this looks. Since I had some cloud fabric, I didn't need to add appliqué clouds. The pennant in white is felt and I attached it with running stitches and French knots. I have this in a gift shop, so I am hoping it will sell there. I have more embroidery hoops and can make more variations on this hot air balloon if it does sell. It might sell better in October when the annual International Hot Air Balloon Fiesta is here in Albuquerque, so I'll see what happens now.

Valentine Heart Dream Catcher

It's Love is in the Air week over on the Therm-O-Web blog.  I am thrilled to be on the Therm-O-Web Design Team and this is my first Therm-O-Web project that I made to share with you. I created this Valentine Day Dream Catcher using a small embroidery hoop and a bit of fabric, ribbon yarn and crystals. You can check out the full tutorial on the Therm-O-Web blog.

The heart is a reverse appliqué technique and the scrappy piecing is a great way to use up small bits of fabric. Choose the size embroidery hoop you want to use to make this Dream Catcher. While not a traditional Dream Catcher, this embroidery hoop art has the feeling of a Dream Catcher.

I added hotfix crystals, buttons, a bit of hand embroidery in straight stitches and French Knots.

Looks great blowing in the breeze on a tree.

I used StitchnSew sew-in fleece high loft and StitchnSew sew-in woven extra firm interfacing.

I also used Spray-n-Bond basting adhesive & Heat-n-Bond Lite iron on adhesive.
