Happy Tails Quilt Block #1

Hello all you Dog Lovers! I am making the Happy Tails Block of the Month from Suzy's Artsy-Crafty Sitcom, design by Susan Meyers. The blocks are free for the one month that they are released. This block was released last month and so it's no longer free, but you can buy this single pattern. The 2nd block just came out, so you can get it free and the rest of them free if you download the pdf patterns before they expire in December.

I decided I would try to make these blocks doing Quilt-as-you-go (QAYG) and I hopefully will keep up each month. I usually never keep up each month and start off making only the first block, (if that) as I have so much going on, but I can make them later when the mood strikes.

I think this Block #1 is so cute! The second block (#2) I printed out is a Dachshund. I need to get those pieces cut out soon if I am to keep up. I am using scraps of batiks and other fabrics too. I have plenty of the text dog wording, but the rest I will make scrappy, trying to use up whatever is in the scraps bags before I need to cut into yardage. I still need to hand embroider the butterfly antennae's on this block #1 too.

Hopefully I will have block #2 to share next month. Woof!

Seagull Paradise Block 1

I am making the Seagull Paradise from Suzy's Sitcom. This is the first block. I loved it when I saw it and made it fairly quickly. Usually I download the blocks and it takes me months or years (or never) to make any of them, but this one was just too cute!

I decided to quilt the block and possibly do a quilt-as-you-go (QAYG) with the other blocks (which come out monthly) or just add borders around this and finish the block as a wall quilt or table runner? Since I will have to wait each month to see what the other blocks will look like, I will wait until they have all been released to decide how I will finish it or them. I may choose to leave some out or not, so time will tell as I see them and decide whether I want to make each block or just some.

The seagulls remind me of growing up in California and my time on the beaches there.

The background fabrics are all batik in 3 different blue shades.

I used a variegated floss for the curled grasses, which are stitched by hand.

Tiny buttons were used for their eyes.

I used a few different white prints for the gulls and a couple different oranges for their beaks and feet. I satin stitched their legs by machine.
Looking forward to seeing what the block for October will look like.

Vegetable Seed Packet Quilts

I made these individual quilts of Vegetable Seed Packages. The quilt is called Grandma's Garden Quilt from Suzy's Sitcom, which was a block of the month for 9 months, but now all 9 blocks are available at once.

I didn't want to make this into one large quilt, so I made each block separate, which does make them look more like a packet of seeds. I used batik fabrics, mostly scraps, and then added the batik border around each quilt. I machine blanket stitched and then did hand embroidery for the lettering and other things like stems, tendrils, etc.

Each quilt measures approximately 14" wide x 18" high.

I made corner triangles on the back of all of these little quilts so they can be hung with a dowel inserted into the corner triangles.

Carrots come in more than just orange. Carrots are also white, yellow, purple and red. I didn't make my bunch in all those colors, but mostly in various shades of orange and one yellow.

I love the look of Crookneck Squash because it's interesting. Tastes good too!

I made my radishes Easter Radishes instead of red and white radishes like the pattern shows. I remember the first time I saw Easter Radishes at a Farmer's Market, I was amazed by the colors of red, pink, white and purple in the bunch of radishes and I loved the colors! I grew my own Easter Radishes after that.

I am not sure what I will do with all 9 of these because I don't have room to hang them all unless I hang them up high on the wall above my dining space and kitchen, which is a short wall in height coming down from the ceiling. I will see if Mr. P wants to climb up and hang them there.

I loved making these! Thanks Suzy for your wonderful patterns!
