I'd Rather Be Sewing Grocery Tote

I made 2 I'd Rather be Sewing Grocery Totes for a neighbor. This pattern is a free video tutorial from ChrisW Designs. Bag comes in 2 sizes. I made the large here. There isn't a huge difference in the small and large sizes, so why not go large when you are packing groceries.

Made with a home dec fabric. I added rivets and labels. Now my neighbor can shop and bring her own bags with her. Since plastic bags will be banned starting next year, she will be using these well in advance. I have a little of this fabric left to make at least one more large bag and maybe another smaller bag.

  1. wow those are fantastic. i have sewn numerous grocery bags but most of mine are small, i need to look into the large size. i like that you used a sturdy home dec fabric the pattern you used is very striking and bold. LOVE it. great job as always.

  2. Love the fabrics. We are all going to be needing these very soon as plastics finally make their way out!

  3. I've probably said this before, but whenever I see people make these nice looking shopping bags (and yes, these are very nice looking), I wonder if they ever get used to carry groceries. I use a set of sturdy black bags sold by my grocery store and they've lasted forever (made out of recycled plastic bottles) and don't show dirt. So I ask you a question - do you carry your groceries in a bag that you made yourself?

  4. Love your bags. They make a great gift and a not-so-subtle hint to people that use plastics heavily. We haven't used plastic bags for groceries for some time. I wish we outlaw single-use plastic very soon but it ain't going to happen anytime soon where I live (Texas :-).

  5. Hi Daryl! This is a great project and one that I would like to embark on. I bring bags to the grocery store each time I visit but there are still plenty of people who do not. I don't see those darn plastic bags going anywhere around these parts (Wisconsin) but it would be nice if they were. ~smile~ Roseanne
