I wanted to make a notebook to hold my small rulers for quilting. I decided to use an applique I made from a
free pattern online from Hissy Fitz Designs for the cover of the notebook and then to use batiks scraps and sew around the applique. I have more rulers that don't fit into this notebook, so I will be making another notebook cover to hold the rest of the small rulers too.
|
I added applique "rulers" on the spine of the notebook. |
|
I put my rulers into zippered pencil pouches and the instructions to go with them stay in the pouch too so I can easily locate them. |
|
This is the back of the notebook cover. |
Pin It Now!
How perfect is that? Love it so much!!!!
ReplyDeleteThis is fun. I hope your rulers always come 'home',
ReplyDeleteThis is a great idea for specialty rulers that aren't always being used.
ReplyDeleteYou've outdone yourself, Daryl... that is one great looking binder! My favourite part is the "Stitch" embroidery (particularly the "S" measuring tape). This looks like a lot of time consuming work; was it?
ReplyDeleteDaryl Dear you are very clever to create a beautiful fabric stitched cover for a 3-ring binder to hold your rulers. Great way to stay organized. Embracing Creative Bliss...
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely love the appliqué word stitch!!! Brilliant!!!
ReplyDeletePerfect! Your work is meticulous. Love this.
ReplyDeleteso cleaver and the letters are amazing. the addition of the word written even on the side is just icing on the cake. perfection and lovely details.
ReplyDeleteI have a pegboard wall filled with rulers. ( i have a problem with rulers and know I need help but I have at least admitted to my addiction) Your notebook idea is super. Especially for keeping track of those instructions. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteThe lettering you created is so fun Daryl! I love the "S" measuring tape. :) A really great idea for staying organized too.
ReplyDeleteThat 'stitch' design caught my attention right away - how cute! But then I continued to read and realized you were making a rulers notebook cover...what a smashing idea. I struggle to keep track of all those rulers and your idea is excellent for organizing them. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteThis is where useful and lovely come together! This would make a great present for quilter friend, must make a note of it ;))
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea! It's gorgeous, too. Can I say that your appliqués are beautifully stitched?
ReplyDeleteThank you for participating to my Fabric, Thread and Yarn link party. Have a good weekend!
I've been trying to come up with a way to organize my rulers. I currently use a desk organizer thing but the little ones get lost in there. Unfortunately most of my rulers would not fit into a notebook. A friend of mine puts hers in hanging file folders. One thing I do is label my project boxes when a certain ruler is required. That way if I grab a project for a sew day I know to pack that ruler. And if I can't find a ruler, I know which box to look in!
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful idea. You always do such wonderful things.
ReplyDeletevery creative and such a good idea for the rulers found your link from Lea at Podunk pretties
ReplyDeleteGreat job, wonderful design! I need to make one! Where can I buy those zip lock bags please, on line because I live in Belgium. Thanks
ReplyDeleteMartine you are a no-reply so I couldn't email you directly. I do hope you return to read this. I bought those clear zip pouches at an Office Supply store. They are meant to hold pencils and pens in your notebook. Wherever they sell school supplies for children, you might find these for sale. Sometimes they have mesh on the front, sometimes the back is a fabric and the front is clear. Look around at local shops in Belgium and see if they carry pencil pouches for notebooks. Hope this helps.
DeleteLove your "ruler" book...great ideas for all of use with many small types of rulers...or can adapt the book for other patterns to hold...I have many applique bits and this would be great...Thank you for your lovely patchwork and for introducing us to another designer....
