Zippered Pouch in Batik Strips with Added Name on Pouch

Just before this virus closed down so many places, a woman in my stitch group asked me to make her a bag with her name on it for when she played golf to keep her stuff inside. We met and I gave her the bag and the next day all our groups were cancelled until further notice. I was happy that I was able to get it to her, or I might still have it waiting until we would see each other again.

Becky wanted the bag bright colors, but left the rest to me. So I decided to use many bright colors and used lots of strips of batik fabric. Then I enlarged a font on the computer for her name and painted it on the fabric. I added a wrist strap (to hang off her golf bag). The bag could double as a cosmetic bag or small project bag too.

Becky didn't want any pockets inside, but I thought she might at least want a pen, so I used some fold-over elastic to make a pen holder.

I had to include one of my Thank You pens for her. Actually it says, "Thanks-Patchouli Moon Studio-Bags by Daryl P"

Becky was pleased with the bag and that made me happy too. I hope she was able to use it for something else until she could play golf again.

Filigree Double Zip-Pouch in Large

At my quilt group's garage sale, I bought this paper pattern (also available online as a pdf), called Filigree Double Zip-Pouch, by Sara Lawson of Sew Sweetness. I recognized the pattern of course, so I snapped it up for one dollar! The pattern includes small-medium-large sizes. I made the large size here for my grandson who is turning 10 years old today!!! He is a lover of trains and so this train fabric was the perfect choice for this bag that I made for him.

I was curious how this pattern was put together with the 2 zippers. I think the one thing I was not wild about is the "air space" that is created when the side gusset/bottom is what connects the 2 pockets together to form one bag. You can pull the bottom of the lining up and feel that the pocket is not anchored on the bottom or sides. So even when the bag is stuffed with things, you will see that your items will not round out the sides of the bag. Am I being ultra picky here? I don't know but it just bothered me somehow. 

While this is a clever design and can be a fun and useful bag too, it is not my cup of tea. I think I would prefer 2 separate zippered pouches. I had cut out a small bag to make after making this one and when I saw how this came out, I decided to make those into 2 small separate bags instead. (I showed those smaller ones with the 16 Clematis bags I made last month). I always wanted to make this pouch and have now, so I can check it off my list.

All in all I am sure my grandson will love this bag and think it's cool to have 2 zippers!

I wanted the zippers to be colorful and stand out separately, so I went with primary colors of yellow and red to go with the blue fabric. Inside the lining colors match each zipper too.

I had purchased these 2 "Z" charms years ago because as you can guess, his name starts with the letter Z. I am finally using them.

See where the sides cave in? That is the air space I am referring to. I had this bag stuffed with those packing pillows, but because of the air space at the sides, it wouldn't round out.

Red and white checks and yellow gingham are the lining fabrics that match each zipper color.

Each zippered pocket is pretty roomy. I am sure he will find stuff to put inside.

The Organizer Pouch

I made myself one of my own Organizer Pouches in a batik print. You can get the pattern on Craftsy here. 2 zippers are on one side of the pouch.

1 zipper on the other side of the pouch.

Has an optional wrist strap.

The main part of the bag has a small zippered pocket too.

One of my testers made a boxed corner version, so I decided to make one too to try. But I discovered that you need to shorten some of the pockets in order to do this version. (I included this version at the end of the pattern instructions). Boxing the corners gives this a totally different look.

I am using this one as my camera bag. I can keep my camera in the main compartment and the cord in one pocket, batteries and memory cards in another pocket and I even have a small table top tripod that fits too.

I like this typewriter keys batik fabric.

Carissa Clutch

I made this Carissa Clutch a pattern by Huff 'n Cuffs. This is a free pattern and a new to me designer. I found this to be an easy to sew pattern. There is an optional strap handle that you can add across the width of the clutch, but I chose not to add the handle to this one.

I used this cute cowboy boot fabric (thank you Sherry!) with an accent fabric that went well with it.

Inside is a wonderful credit card slot pocket and a zippered pocket opposite. So you don't need a wallet because it is a wallet too! This is so great for when you don't have a lot of stuff you need or want to take with you. There is plenty of space for a phone, keys, cash and of course credit cards and ID.
