Iron Shaped Pincushion

I made this iron shaped pincushion a couple of years ago. For the cord, I wrapped some yarn around a cord. The added cord is not really necessary to add, but I thought I would try it. It turned out cute.

Kitty Kat Pincushion

Remember the posting where I showed the Kitty Kat pincushion that I found the FREE pattern online? It was designed by Sue Daniel. I made the pincushion using hand dyed wool felt that I purchased at a quilt show a couple of years ago. It came out cute. I did some of the sewing my way because I usually have my own way of doing things and don't always follow instructions the way they are written. Perhaps because I have been sewing for so long, I have found easier and better ways to do some things.

I added colorful pins on the burgundy wool cushion, so it's all ready to use.

Maybe it's not polite to show the rear view? Lol.

Cute Kitty Cat Pincushion

I was visiting Teresa from A Quilt and A Prayer this morning and she had a photo of this adorable Kitty pincushion. She was trying to find out more about it because it belonged to someone who was at the quilt retreat she was attending.
So I went sleuthing around the internet and I found this:
This is a FREE pattern you can find here.

Pincushion Dip Bowl

Yesterday Karen from Sew Many Ways showed some clever ways to use a plastic lunch container. One of those containers had a hole in the middle and Karen put loose pins in the middle of her bowl. This is a thrift store find I recently bought that I was going to post as soon I took some photos. I commented to Karen that I just bought a similar bowl, but in ceramic and put a pincushion in the hole and other sewing tools in the space around the hole. So Karen as the saying goes, Great minds think alike.
My ceramic bowl find from a thrift store.

It was from Crate & Barrel originally.

A felted pincushion I made over a year ago fit just perfectly in the hole indentation. I guess it was meant to be.  I can place the presser feet and bobbins I am using in the space around the pincushion. I hot glued the pincushion in place to keep it from moving around as I use it.

Aerial view, lol.

Thread Catcher & Pincushion

Wool pincushion I made from a wool sweater that I felted: I followed (most) of the directions for the Thread Catcher tutorial I found on Sew Mama Sew. I made a wool pincushion instead of the patchwork pincushion she showed. I also needed something to weigh it down so it would stay put since I didn't fill my pincushion with something heavy, such as sand, rice, crushed walnut shells, etc. So I used a piece of tile (half a tile from when my husband tiled the entry) and covered the tile with polyester batting and then made a a fabric casing for the tile to fit into. I sewed the tool pocket to the bottom of the fabric covered tile.
The thread catcher is removable, as you can see, it just attaches with a button and a loop. Makes it easy to empty or to move elsewhere like when I am hand sewing.
I love the tool pocket on this thread catcher because I use it next to my sewing machine that fits into a table and so I couldn't use one of those tool pocket thingees that sit under the sewing machine, since my machine is flush with the table. On my other sewing machine I have a tool pocket thingee though...is there a proper name for those things? Pin It Now!

Cake Slice Pincushions

Don't these look yummy? I must confess that I didn't make these cake slices, which are actually pincushions. My friend Bobbie made these yummy delights for the PJ Party that she had for our applique group. There are 10 slices, but 5 are different fabrics. I chose one of the slices with the blue flower on top. Bobbie is incredible with her sewing/quilting/applique/embroidery skills and is a very giving person too! Who else would have made 10 women such great pincushions like these? Thanks Bobbie! Pin It Now!
