Sew Powerful Purse #418 (2025)

While this is the 418th purse I made this year (so far), for Sew Powerful Purse Project I have gifted this purse to a sweet woman I know, but have not met in person. It is on the way to her house and she should receive it on Tuesday. She had a business with a purple cat logo and an idea came to me last week to make her a purse with her cat logo on it. She volunteers each year at the Houston Quilt Show in the Sew Powerful booth. While it was too late for her to wear this purse at the show this year when she volunteers, she can use it next year and of course anytime she wants. People will see the purse on her when she volunteers there or uses the purse elsewhere and might make comments or ask questions and then she can let them know about Sew Powerful. So it could be a good advertisement for the charity. I know she doesn't make many purses herself, so she might enjoy having one. She does do a lot of other wonderful things for Sew Powerful instead of making purses.

I enlarged her logo to create the appliqué cat. I added crystals for the necklace (her logo was pink circles for the necklace). A Handmade Limited Edition label was riveted on too.

front of purse with pocket
I used this cat print for the lining, which was a fabric that she had sent to me a few months ago, so she is getting a little bit of that fabric back 😄.

interior of purse with cat fabric and a slip pocket
I added a slip pocket inside too with a purple band at the top. I included a mini composition notebook cover that I made with the mini composition notebook and placed it inside the pocket for her. I also included a second mini composition notebook for her to give to another Sew Powerful volunteer who lives in a nearby city and that she sees occasionally.

flap and back of purse spread out
The flap and back showing here. I sewed a blue with metallic ribbon onto the webbing for an added touch. I love the flap fabric. It looks dyed or painted. some of the yardage went into a darker purple, but this section I cut had lighter colors so the cat shows up nicely.

Meow.

Scaredy Cat Churn Dash Quilt

Hello my pretties and to all of you cat lovers, Halloween aficionados, scrappy quilt appreciators and Churn Dash quilt block admirers. Welcome to the GG&G Blog Hop (aka Gremlins, Goblins & Ghouls Oh My), hosted by Joan of Moosestash Quilting. Thanks for hosting Joan!

I didn't get too mysterious or creepy or spooky, but I did use a scaredy cat and Halloween colors.

I created this quilt using Crafter's Edge die cuts of squares, rectangles, and half square triangles. Then I added the appliqué black cat in the center of the large Churn Dash Block. I added a folded inner narrow border of green and then the outer border I created by sewing scrappy black pieces around a 1" green square until I got the size block I wanted for the border.

Here is my Scaredy Cat Churn Dash Quilt~

This is just the top I laid out on my floor.

Here is the quilted and finished quilt with black binding.
This quilt measures 35 3/4" wide x 36" high. The Churn Dash blocks are 6" square, with the large Churn Dash measuring 12" square. The cat is 5 1/2" x 5 1/2" at it's widest and tallest parts.

I actually made this quilt last year and never posted about it, so this blog hop was the purrfect (I couldn't resist) time to get this quilt posted on the blog and participate in the hop too at the same time. I used Crafter's Edge 1/2 Square Triangle Die Cuts, Square Die Cuts and Rectangle Die Cuts to create this quilt.

Cross Body Bag with Cat Appliques

I am so behind in posting that I forgot to post this one. I was commissioned to make a bag with cats and this is what I came up with. I love these applique cats. I quilted the bag rather heavily. I used the Convertible Tote pattern by Sew Can She, but of course I made several changes. I love these colors together: purple and turquoise.

I added 2 cats on the front of the bag.

I made strap tabs for the side and added 4 rivets. I like how the 4 rivets look.

Stacked buttons for the cat eyes.

This cat has blue eyes.

The back of the bag I added a zippered pocket.

Inside I added a slip pocket divided with a pen pocket and I added a cat applique on the pocket too. I made the pockets large,  but  I forgot about boxing the corners so the pockets are a bit in the corner.

Meow! I love this fat cat, so cute.
