Art Doll

The fiber art group I belong too decided to make an art doll after seeing one of the show-and-tells from one women. Her doll was a different doll than the one I made here. I used a free pattern by Barbara Owen. I missed the day they actually made the dolls as I went somewhere with my daughter and grandson that day, so I did my own thing and made this doll here she is:
The heart button is a cinnamon button I made years ago. It's made with cinnamon and applesauce. I made cinnamon Christmas ornaments as gifts decades ago in all sorts of shapes and a little paint. They smell so good! I also strung some beads for a necklace, added a flower with a button center and made her hair out of eyelash yarn that has a sparkle to it. The coiled metal I used to hang the doll from is the coil I save from those paper theme books.
I hand stamped a piece of fabric with a variety of stamps and decided to use the stamped fabric for the dress of the doll. I also stamped some fabric to use as the face, arms and legs too. The stamp I used for the "skin" I purchased from my blog friend Norma. The stamp is called En Francais, Go here to see how Norma used this stamp in a Halloween card. Also here Norma used the stamp on an anniversary card with butterflies.

Fox Appliqued Tee-Shirt

It had snowed a couple of days before Thanksgiving, so I decided to grab my camera and photograph a few things I had made while there was still snow on the ground as it usually melts pretty quickly here once the sun comes out. This is a gift I made for my grandson who loves foxes. I figure it's safe to post it now as he is too young to get online and see my blog, lol.
I made this fox and appliqued it onto a tee-shirt for my grandson. The shirt is way too large for him, but he likes the larger shirts to sleep in. He has been into foxes lately, so I thought he would like this.
I put batting behind the applique and machine stitched it in place. Then I carefully cut the excess batting away using my applique scissors. The fox has a bit more of a cush to it with the batting. I added the whiskers, claws, etc. with some hand embroidery.

My New Zibbet Store

I just opened a store on Zibbet, which is similar to Etsy. I only have one item listed so far, which is the Kennedy Bag I made. I have it priced to sell for your gift giving this Christmas. I hope to add new items to my shop as I get time. My store name is Patchouli Moon Studio so it's easy for you to remember. I added my store link above to the tabs under my blog header too. Please take a look from time-to-time as I add new items. Tell your friends and family too. Thank you for your support and kindness with my blog here and I hope you will think of me and my shop at Zibbet if you ever need to purchase a gift too. I will be selling my handmade items on Zibbet and continue to sell my patterns on Craftsy, so if you prefer to make your own things click on my Craftsy store link on the sidebar. I have several free patterns on Craftsy too.

Tip if the Morning Tuesday~Can Cozy

I have all kinds of cans and all sizes too. I have decoupaged cans that I had that came with plastic lids in the past. But I have seen all kinds of cozies online for cups, teapots, bottles, cans, jars, etc. Some were knit cozies, some felted cozies and some were quilted cozies too. I got to thinking about making a quilted cozy for a tall can I have that I use for trash that sits on my cutting table. I decided to use scraps because I have so many scraps. But you can use all one fabric too. I made this in basically the same way that I made my Scrappy Table Runner, which is a free pattern on Craftsy. You can use tea tins, coffee tins, soup tins (be sure you have the kind of can opener that opens leaving a smooth edge and doesn't cut the can or your edge will be sharp if you use that type of tin can!)
I sewed scraps to make this quilted can cozy. Then I quilted it and added binding around 3 sides.
I added a flange-like extension piece to which I sewed a piece of Velcro to. I also sewed Velcro to the lining side just under the binding. The Velcro of course is what keeps the cozy on the can.
Looking down into the can.
Turned so you can see the other section of the cozy.

I printed some labels to sew on the cans too. Above is the label I made for my little trash can.

I use this quilted can cozy for trash, but I plan on making some more for:
  • Thread Snips (thread catchers)
  • Safety Pins
  • Glue Sticks
  • Velcro
  • Paper Clips
  • Clips (like Wonder Clips or Binder Clips)
  • Knitting Needles
  • Pens
  • Pencils
  • Q-tips
  • Yarn
  • Paint Brushes
  • Buttons
  • Snaps
  • Zippers

Little Gifts for a Blog Friend

I got to meet a blog friend in person in November while she and her family were traveling in the states. Mara is an American, but married to a Greek and lives in Greece with her husband and her son and daughter. We met at a small fabric shop in Albuquerque. I made a few little gifts for Mara and her children. Got to keep those wee ones occupied on car trips you know. Mara's Blog is Secretly Stitching. Would you believe I forgot to take my camera with me? Oh well I did take pics of the goodies I made for Mara and her children.
A monster pencil pouch for Mara's son, a little dog for here young daughter and a little wallet for Mara. I wrapped the little wallet in some Southwest fabric.
This is a tiny little dog I made using wool. I stitched the collar in place and added a heart "dog tag".
I even added a little tail on the back.
You can see here how small the dog is. Mara's daughter is 3 years old (? I think), so the dog is just right for little hands to hold.
