Sew Powerful Purses #15-16 for 2026

Here are a couple of scrappy pieced purse flaps with added flower appliqué. Buttons for the flower centers and extra buttons for bling, plus the flap on the left has some hotfix crystals too. Flower appliqué I upcycled from a rainbow tie dye tank top and die cut the flowers myself. I will miss those rainbow flowers when the tank top is all cut up into flowers. I will have to find a rainbow dyed fabric to die cut more flowers, or just cut other colors.

Sew Powerful Purses #477-479 for 2025

3 more purses with scrappy flaps and flower appliqués. Donating to Sew Powerful Purse Project.

Vinyl flap lining and some more of the fabric that my mom had given me several years ago. I had cut the rest of that fabric to make purses to donate. Purse below this has this purse body fabric too.

Pieced webbing scraps to create a long enough strap. Covered joins with ribbon.

The flower is an old rainbow dyed tank top I hadn't worn in years, so I cut up tons of flowers for appliqué and have been adding them to purses. Some of the flowers show one color of the dyed tank top, but I love when I can get a bit more of the rainbow colors in a flower, like this one.

This is a fabric I had for years, so I cut the rest for purses too.

The last 5 purses I have sewn for now. More Debbie Mumm prints, selvages and scraps. 

I am busy now cutting out purse kits for September's Sew-a-thon and fundraising through September 30th as well. It takes $10 to fill each purse with the needed hygiene items that go into the purses. See the links below.

My personal goal is to sew 80 purses in September and raise $800 in which to fill each purse. Please help me to reach the dollar goal. Thank you so much on behalf of the girls! Another Happy Scrappy Purse Flappy to lighten the Pile O Scraps a wee bit, a very wee bit.😂 I love sewing scrappy flaps like this. It's addicting and satisfying too. I used all batik fabrics in the flap.

Front pocket. I only had a fat quarter of this exterior fabric, which yielded one purse and more scraps 😜, but hey it's all good as I can use those scraps in other purse flaps or quilts.

I found a few motifs that I had from a fabric and fussy cut them to use for the center of this purse flap and some other flaps that I made too. Here is one of them. 

I used the wiggle stitch to sew it on the fabric and I added a sewing machine button for fun too.

 The colorful strips were donated to me from a friend.

These fabrics were donated to me to use for the purses I make and donate to Sew Powerful Purse Project. It is so kind of people to donate fabric to me for this cause. It's fun to use a new fabric to make a purse (or purses) too.

2 Scrappy purse flaps with a Debbie Mumm print in the center. I must have had this Debbie Mumm print for 20 years or probably more? The print had all kinds of little things on it like a variety of girls, and sunflowers, schoolhouses, watermelon and more. So I just fused some fusible web onto the back side and fussy cut out all the various motifs and started using them for the centers of both scrappy fabric purse flaps as well as scrappy selvage flaps and sewed all around the motifs. There were quite a lot of flaps I made from the Debbie Mumm print, so you will (and already have) seen some of them, but there are more to come. So glad I used that print up in making these purses to donate to the girls in Zambia so they can stay in school all year. Such a great feeling to give them purses and to use up fabric I have had a long time or quilt blocks I never used before making them into purse flaps as well. This is such a great project for using all the scraps leftover from making the purse bodies and adding them various flaps also.

I started these by cutting the purple fabric with stars and setting it on point and fusing the Debbie Mumm prints and stitching them in place and then sewing scraps of fabrics all around. 

The exterior fabric and the lining fabric were donated to me.

Sew Powerful Purses #177-178 for 2025

2 more purses finished for Sew Powerful Purse Project. The one on left was a quilt block I was playing around with for a quilt block contest from 2013 (for Sisters, Oregon Outdoor Quilt Show Block Contest). I didn't want to waste the fabric that I received for the contest, so I used some of my own fabric to test out a design idea I had and then I made the one for the contest in the fabric I was given. I won an honorable mention for the block I made for the contest.

The purse on the right was made with some squares of fabrics I was given a long time ago. I decided to place the patchwork on point and add an appliqué flower that I cut from a circle and a blue flower and red heart appliqué that I die cut out of felt.

This is the quilt block I made for the contest using the fabric that I received to create a quilt block for the contest. The colors show up better in this photo that I took at home before sending it to the contest. Below was taken at the Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show with the Honorable Mention ribbon attached.

This is the quilt block I made using the fabric I received to make the block for the contest. The ribbon is barely legible, but it does say Honorable Mention at the bottom and July 2013 on it. This Saturday (July 12) is the annual Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show by the way.

Closer look at the appliqué so you can see the crystals I also added.

I have used this exterior fabric for several purses I made for the purse bodies and I am using up miscellaneous fabrics I have for the linings.
