Maya Toiletry Pouch: a New Bag from All Sew Petite

Hello bag lovers. I was happy to be able to test the Maya Toiletry Pouch for All Sew Petite, which is such a fun bag to make and use!

I chose a pretty cotton print for the main body and a cotton purple accent for the bottom, and a vinyl for the side part that snaps and is used as a grab handle. You can make in cotton or vinyl or cork too or combine materials for a great look.

The finished measurements are: 15 cm H / 23 cm W / 13 cm D (5 7/8”H / 9”W / 5 1/8”D)

I love this print! The colors and the design is so pretty!

Closes with a zipper closure.

The side pieces with the snap makes a great grab handle. Unsnap it to open the bag wider.

I love to quilt the bottom of bags for more stability.

Inside I used a waterproof canvas material. I used cotton fabric for the inside of the zipper pocket.

I love purple and these blue fabrics together.

Grab your pdf pattern now while it is on sale. Monika also has made a video showing how to make this bag too, so if you need more visual instructions, watch the video.

The pattern is 35% off for the first week! Don't miss this opportunity to get your hands on the Maya Toiletry Pouch sewing pattern. No code is needed.

The sale ends at midnight on the 12th of March (GMT).

Fine & Dandy Zipper Pouch

I made a zippered pouch by a new bag designer, Liz Schaffner of Moments blog. Liz has been designing bags of her own after having been a bag tester for several designers. I will be testing one of Liz's designs this month once she has it ready to test. In the meanwhile, I made her Fine & Dandy Zipper Pouch last night. I had planned on cutting it out and sewing it today, but I just was on a roll and kept sewing, lol! I learned a great tip and plan on using Liz's method on future bags that I make from now on. I enjoyed making the large version of this bag. The pattern includes both a small and a large size, and that is really nice to have choices.

Here is the large size Fine & Dandy Zipper Pouch that I made:
Funny, now that I see the photos, I can see the fabric I chose looks like a 9-patch quilt block. I didn't even notice that before. I guess I was too close to it, lol.

My knitting stuff fits inside nicely. I have knitting needles, scissors, skein of yarn, eyeglasses in the felt case, and a few things in the pockets that you can't see. Still lots of room left.

I made a zipper pull with beads and a peace sign in lime green!

The empty inside. There are slip pockets and pleated pockets. a total of 16 pockets to hold whatever you want. Plus an optional swivel hook to hook your keys or whatever you want to have quick access to.

Open Wide Zipper Bag Size Large

I made the largest Open Wide Bag (by Annie pattern) and like my small size Open Wide Bags, I yarn couched, sewed decorative machine embroidery stitches and added a few hand embroidered stitches all over the bag. This large size is nice and large. I used an ombre fabric that goes from pales greens to light blue to a medium blue.
Here is one side of the bag.
This is the other side of the bag.
This side of the bag has the zipper tab to tuck in the zipper end when closing the bag.
On one side of the bag where the zipper is I added a zipper pull that I made.
Inside the bag I divided one pocket and left the other one large. Again I made my pockets in fabric rather than mesh.
Bottom of the bag has decorative stitches too.

I am off this morning with a friend to drive to Taos. The annual Taos Wool Festival held in Kit Carson Park is this Saturday and Sunday. It will be a fun weekend and I hope to have lots of pictures to share when I return. We'll be staying in the Ski area so it should be nice and quiet up there since it's before the ski season starts. Adios amigas (and amigos). Pin It Now!

Fairport Purse & Pouch

I tested a bag from a new designer, or at least Sara is new to me. The pattern is called the Fairport Purse and Pouch by Sara from Radiant Home Studio . She sells patterns and has a blog too. The Fairport Purse is larger and has grommets and a strap, whereas the pouch is a smaller version without grommets and you can add a wrist strap. I decided to make the larger of the two and then realized I didn't have grommets, so I made it into a large pouch, but didn't add the wrist strap in time. LOL!!! Still, it came out looking just fine and it's not so large that it really needs a strap anyhow. There are a lot of variations you can make to this bag, such as adding a shoulder or wrist strap or not, adding a pocket or not, adding a flap, etc. The yoke part on the bag would be a great place to add an applique or embroidery or patchwork. The pattern is written for a confident beginner, but those with more experience can add to this bag as it suits your needs or taste. You can purchase this or Sara's other patterns here. Without further ado here is my Fairport purse:
Here is my Fairport purse.
I added a divided pocket inside my purse. This pattern doesn't include pocket instructions, but it's easy to add a slip pocket if you want to.
This photo is the cover of Sara's pattern and show you the 2 bags in the 2 sizes. You can see here how it would look if you added a flap or either strap.
