Pink Scrappy String Quilt with Appliqué Flannel Bear

I love scrappy quilts and string quilts are one of my favorite types of scrappy quilts. When I make quilts to donate to a child, I like to add a touch of appliqué to the quilt to make it more kid friendly and cuddly. I also use flannel for the quilt backing for softness and cuddly comfort too. I love the color pink, so this quilt looks great to me in all its pinkness 😂. Pink is a calming color too, so whoever receives this quilt, I hope they love it!

I donated this quilt and 7 other quilts to Wrap the World in Quilts, which is located in Lehi, Utah. They then send quilts anywhere in the world where quilts are needed, such as Ukraine, those who lost their homes in the California fire, Thailand and so many other places. I think this is a wonderful cause!

WTWIQ accepts quilts in any colors, prints, sizes and for all ages, so I like that I can make something and not have to be concerned if the fabric is something that one culture or another could be offended by as I am sure WTWIQ will not send anything to a place that a certain print could be a problem.

I mailed my donation box to them on Thursday (via UPS) and they received it on Friday the next day! Be sure to use the Give Back Box on their website to mail your box of quilt as you can send up to 50 pound of only $20. I put 8 quilts of various sizes into the box, plus they take fabric donations and quilt rulers and supplies too, so I gave them rulers I don't use as well as some fabric to fill up the box and the box only weighed 29 pounds, so I could have put more into the box, but it was full. You can even send just the quilt tops and they will quilt them. I will be sending in some larger quilt tops once I get them made, since it's a struggle to quilt anything large for me. I will be able to get more tops done in a fraction of the time it takes me to finish an entire quilt, and get more tops in a box than quilts, which will help me to use up more fabric faster. YAY! Sounds like a win-win-win to me!😉

A flannel bear appliqué is so cute. I didn't want to worry about using button eyes if a child under 3 got this quilt, so I used plastic Kam snaps for the eyes! Those eyes are super secure and a child couldn't remove them or even an adult!

Love all those yummy pink prints and shades of pink.

I will be sharing the other quilts I donated to Wrap the World in Quilts soon too.

Sew Powerful Purses #48-54 (2025) Made from Starbucks Aprons

These 7 purses that I am donating to Sew Powerful were made upcycling 4 Starbucks aprons. My daughter works at Starbucks and when she got new aprons she was getting rid of these, and of course I thought Purses! She had 3 red and 1 green apron and I was able to get 8 total purses out of the 4 aprons. I had already posted one green purse body with an appliqué flower on the flap using the green apron here. Thanks sweet daughter! 8 girls will benefit from me making 8 purses for them to stay in school all year. Yay!

I got 4 purses with the Starbucks logo for flaps and had to make 4 more more total flaps (the one I mentioned above in green) and the 3 raw edge quilted flaps further down below. The aprons all have 2 front pockets and I used one of the apron pockets (plus a bit more fabric around the pocket) for each of the total 8 backs with the aprons pocket still attached, so no need to make a pocket, yay! I also pieced together enough of the apron neck straps to create 2 purse straps and I used webbing for the other purse straps.

The Starbucks logo is a two-tailed siren, which is inspired by the Greek myth of the Sirens, who lured sailors to their deaths with enchanting songs, and represent the company's connection to the sea and Seattle, where it originated. Nice, huh? 😬

4 purse fronts with Starbucks logo and decorative stitches and embellishments
The logo was up high on the apron, so I couldn't bring it down more. I wanted to add embellishments on the flap so it looked more appealing and so I used rickrack, lace, buttons, crystals, machine blanket stitches and some French knots.

3 purse fronts with raw edge scrappy flaps and Starbucks apron bodies
I had to create flaps to go with the remainder of the apron fabric that I used for these purse bodies, so I added raw edge scraps and quilted them. I added embellishments of buttons & couched yarn.

Wonky Log Cabin Quilt

I made myself a Wonky Log Cabin quilt in all batik fabrics. I used orange for the center, even though I used a few different orange batik prints. A simple straight diagonal quilting and a flannel backing for softness. I love how this turned out!  So many variations for the settings, but I have always liked Sunshine & Shadow setting the best. I used some batik scraps & some partial Jelly Rolls and some strips cut from yardage to make this quilt.

The quilt is a longer lap size and measures 47" wide x 67" long.

Slip & Zip Wallet (Size Small)

Christine of ChrisW Designs has created the Slip & Zip Wallets, which are 3 sizes of raw edge wallet patterns (all with free video instructions). I tested just this small wallet, but the medium and large wallets are great too! Each are different, but with similar features. You can read all about these wallets and their features here. Plus, if you purchase the Wallet Bundle to get all 3 wallet patterns, you get a discount. The bundle is 15% off the normal price of the three patterns PLUS during the intro promotions, there is an extra 5% off using the code: introslipzip. Hurry if you want to save. The individual patterns will be available separately for sale after April 10, but they won't be on sale.

Here is my small version, which measures 11cm (4 3/8”) W X 10cm (4”) H X 1.2cm (½”) D.

Closes with a snap.

I thought this vinyl was pretty with the embossed butterflies, dragonflies and flowers. There is a partial dragonfly that you can see in the upper right and left corners. A zipper coin pocket with a welt on the left so that it opens up enough to retrieve your coins.

open wallet empty
6 card pockets plus an ID window pocket. Can be made without the clear window too. I think my vinyl or glue or both didn't adhere properly in the center? I know I am not as experienced as the other testers with using vinyl, so not sure what happened, but I am using this wallet and only I can see it and it doesn't bother me.

Stay at Home Round Robin (2025) Finished!!!

I got my SAHRR quilted and sewed on the binding so it's done, tada!! I really love how this turned out. I had no idea what I was going to do until I thought about each prompt and then just dove right in and started to sew blocks. I used up a lot of scraps too. This quilt is a mixture of batiks fabrics and commercial cotton fabrics and they all worked well together.

Thanks Gail (of Quilting Gail) for coming up with this SAHRR idea a few years ago and keeping it going until I finally decided to take the plunge and join in (and I am so glad I did😄). I already have some ideas for my center block for next year (if Gail continues doing this SAHRR, that is).

Be sure to check out the other SAHRR participants and see their finished quilts too in the SAHRR Parade on Gail's blog. The Parade will be on the Linky at the end of her post. Be sure that you check back to see all the SAHRR Parade as participants add their finished quilts this week to the Linky. We are all in different time zones, so they won't all be there at the same time.

The finished quilt measures 58" x 58".
