April Showers Mug Rug Blog Hop

Most people get showers in April where they live, although here in New Mexico we rarely get April showers, but we do get a lot of wind in the spring. March & April is actually our windy season. If we are lucky, we will get some showers in July & August, during our monsoon season. It's dry here in the high desert and we could sure use some showers. We've been in a drought here now for a few years.
The only time I see umbrellas around here is in the heat of the summer when New Mexican's use their umbrellas is for the shade they provide, not for protection from the rain, lol.
Thank you Madame Samm and cheerleader Erin of Sew at Home Mummy for this fun blog hop. Ilove mug rugs! They are fun and easy to make because they are small enough to get done. Essentially they are just a mini quilt. If you are new to quilting it's a great project to make because you are learning all the same techniques that you would learn in making a larger quilt, whether it's a pieced or an applique quilt. Plus mug rugs are useful and they make great gifts too. I hope you enjoy seeing the mug rugs that I created here for this blog hop.

Umbrella Mug Rug
I made this umbrella mug rug to go along with the April Showers theme. The blue fabric I  used for the background was perfect because it was a rainstorm . I added some prairie points too.
backing fabric to umbrella mug rug
On the back of the umbrella mug rug from above, I used a fabric with umbrellas and pink bunnies.
Dragonfly Mug Rug

Ladybug Mug Rug
I made this mug rug to match my ladybug mug.

I used a green stripe fabric and appliqued the ladybugs and added the hand embroidery.

Backing fabric for Ladybug Mug Rug
This is the fabric I used on the back of the mug rug. It was a perfect fabric and I had just enough for this mug rug too.

Ladybug Mug Rug with matching mug
I wanted to make the ladybug mug rug after making the mug rug below that matches my bumble bee mug, but I never got around to making this ladybug mug rug...that is until this blog hop which was just the thing to make me do it and get it finished.
Bumble Bee Mug Rug with matching mug
This was a mug rug I made last year to match my mug.
Love Chocolate Mug Rug
The Nancy Halvorsen applique design (from Art-to-Heart) of the lady with the chocolates (on the left) I started to applique this over a year ago. I found her in my pile of UFO's. So I decided to finish her and turn it into a mug rug. I drew a bowl and made it into an applique. Then I fused some chocolate candy fabric and added it to the bowl and in her hands. I didn't plan this out very carefully as the words above the bowl was a bit too close to the binding and too much space below the bowl. I also should have sewn her arms and body into the seam...so rick-rack to the rescue! Still she turned out cute.
Chocolate Hearts Mug Rug
Two hearts made from a candy fabric (the same fabric I fused in the mug rug above).
