Helicopter Quilt

I made this quilt for my grandson who will be 3 years old in November. He loves all kinds of vehicles like trains, airplanes, earth movers, ambulances, police cars and helicopters. So when I saw this Amy Bradley design in a magazine awhile back, I thought my grandson would love it. Amy's designs are always so cute and whimsical, which is perfect for a child. I didn't add a border, but instead made a scrappy binding, which turned out nice, but was a bit hard to deal with in the corners! I hand blanket stitched around the shapes and machine quilted it.

  1. This is so adorable. I've searched high and low and can't seem to find that design by Amy Bradley. Do you recall which magazine you saw it in? You work and fabric choices are perfect.

  3. It's called Whirlybird, and it was from the Spring 2008 issue of Quilts & More magazine. I don't know if they have any back issues available?
