Heart Block For Myra

Karen from the Selvage Blog (http://www.selvageblog.blogspot.com) has a posting about making a Heart Applique Quilt Block for a woman in New Zealand who has cancer. This is the block that I made. I started off making the background scrappy strips and was going to just applique a large and small heart stacked on top of each other, but I changed directions and now you can't really see much of the background and won't see it if it gets sewn into a quilt. Oh well, I like how the applique turned out and hopefully Myra will too.

Fabric Folder I Made

I made this quilted fabric folder with appliques using all scrap fabrics. This is the front of the folder: This is the back of the folder:

Quilt Block

I made this block for Kathleen, a quilter who moved to Texas. The little fabric scrap under the block were the colors we were supposed to use in the block, but we could make any block. Pin It Now!

Wool Pincushions

Here are the pincushions that I made out of the wool balls that I had felted (to see the wool balls before they became pincushions scroll down a couple of postings).

Cake Slice Pincushions

Don't these look yummy? I must confess that I didn't make these cake slices, which are actually pincushions. My friend Bobbie made these yummy delights for the PJ Party that she had for our applique group. There are 10 slices, but 5 are different fabrics. I chose one of the slices with the blue flower on top. Bobbie is incredible with her sewing/quilting/applique/embroidery skills and is a very giving person too! Who else would have made 10 women such great pincushions like these? Thanks Bobbie! Pin It Now!

Wool Felted Balls

Wool balls amongst the rocks.
I took some blue/turquoise dyed wool roving and shaped it into a ball of wool, and then placed the ball inside a nylon stocking in the toe and tied a knot to keep the ball in place. I tossed the nylon-covered wool balls into my front loading washing machine the next time I did laundry and these felted balls were the result. It was a little tricky trying to pry the balls out of the nylon because they sort of felted themselves to the nylon! Better to use a cotton sock in the future as that doesn't happen with the cotton.
The brown wool was bits and pieces of wool leftover from a sheep shearing that my friend Susan gave me several years ago. The brown was a bit harder to shape into a ball because the pieces were short. After the brown one felted, I had to trim the little pieces of wool that were sticking up. Still it felted very nicely.

These will become pincushions, as wool makes the best pins cushions. The pins feel so much nicer gliding into felted wool and the wool actually conditions the pins. I have some ideas for transforming them into beautiful pincushions. Check back and see how these little wool balls will look in the future.

Chile (Chili) Rounder

My friend Pam Wolf designed this Chili (Chile)Rounder table topper for round tables. It's for people who have round tables where table runners just don't work. She asked me to be the pattern tester for it and so of course I said yes! I added a lot of quilting to my rounder. It was a fun pattern and I love applique. My husband really loves this! He is quite protective of it so that it doesn't get dirty.
