Hello to all you Food Lovers! I hope you all have been inspired by the first two days of this Foodie Blog Hop. I am here to kick off the middle of the week for this blog hop, brought to you by the lovely Carla of Creatin' in the Sticks.
I hope you have eaten your breakfast, lunch or dinner before you hop along, because you are sure to get hungry seeing all these food-inspired projects!
For my project, I decided on making this Vintage Style Apron that is reversible, so I got to use up a couple of foodie fabrics in one project. I actually found the pattern for this apron about 3 years ago at a thrift store. The pattern had never been used, becuase I had to cut the pattern pieces out. It's a pattern called, Chatterbox Apron Pattern by Mary Mulari (if you ever watched Sewing with Nancy, you know that Mary was the most frequent guest on Nancy's show over the years.
Here is the cover of the pattern:

And here is my version (or should I say versions, since it's 2-sided)?
Hard to get a really good photo, since I don't have a model. This fabric is all about baking tools. I used a red polka fabric as the accent fabric on the pockets, neckline, neck strap and waist ties. |
Another photo of each hanging in the tree with the strap spread out to see it a bit better. |
So glad I was finally able to use up these 2 fabrics in something fun and useful. |

ReplyDeleteYour apron is adorable, and such great fabrics.
ReplyDeleteDaryl, I love this apron! It's a sweet pattern, and your fabrics are just right for it. I have a question though. Does having two layers to make it reversible cause any stiffness in the apron? Many years ago I made a reversible one, but the fabrics I used made it a bit stiffer than I was used to. I'm wondering now, seeing yours, if maybe I just my fabric choices should have been different.
ReplyDeleteLynn you are a no-reply, so I don't have your email to answer you back directly. Using quilting cottons didn't make the apron any stiffer, however I did add interfacing to the aqua side in the neck accent because the main fabric was showing through and that did stiffen it a bit. I am sure it will soften a little once it's washed though. Since there is no interfacing called for in the pattern, it wouldn't be too stiff normally, although the neck accent is sewn to the main fabric and being reversible, there are 4 layers in the neck accent then.
DeleteI absolutely ADORE this apron. I love how feminine vintage aprons are. They always seem to look good on everyone!
ReplyDeleteI'm picturing this on a mannequin in the corner of a breakfast nook to brighten a day or on Donna Reed. I hope you have an idea who she is because I can picture her in my head but not the name of the TV show where she played the very well dressed mom. Regardless, it/they are beautiful aprons.
ReplyDeleteI was eating breakfast while hopping this morning so my tummy is full:) That is such a sweet apron and making it reversible is a great idea! Can't decide which side is cuter.
