Kennedy Bag

When I saw this free bag pattern online from Sara of Sew Sweetness, I knew I wanted to make the Kennedy Bag. I also knew I would making some changes to the pattern. Most of the changes I made was because I didn't care for a few of the design elements of the bag, so I added or subtracted a few things. Here is my version of the Kennedy bag:
I made this bag using 7 different black & white fabrics for the exterior.
I made one buckle accent down the center of the bag instead of the 2 buckles that was on the pattern. At first I was going to just sew the accent down the center and not add the buckle at all, but then I decided I liked the one buckle.
On the back of the bag I added a zippered pocket. The pattern has no pocket on the back of the bag at all..
I didn't use swivel hooks to attach the handle. I only used D-rings.
I did add one swivel hook on the side of the bag to hold my keys. I also didn't add any buckles on the side of the bag. I did sew an accent strip on but no buckle.
Here is how my keys clip onto the swivel hook.
I added a zipper pull that I made with beads, a charm and a small key ring.
I used a pink and white striped fabric with ladybugs for the lining fabric. I also made another zipper pull for the inside zipper pocket. As you can see I can fit a lot inside this bag. Lol!

  1. I love your modifications. I have downloaded the pattern but I too was feeling there was just too much 'hardware' on the bag for my taste. I will try some of your alterations when I get around to making my bag. :-)

  10. Using just one buckle in the center really worked out. It looks great! By keeping the colors mostly in black and white using so many fabrics is not overwhelming. And all the little details you added makes it so cute!! Great job!
