Convertible Bag

The Convertible Bag is March's bag from the Bag-of-the-Month Club. This bag was designed by Samantha of At Home with Mrs. H. It's called the Convertible Bag because you can wear on your shoulder or convert it to wear it across the body or it even can be worn as a backpack. I knew I wouldn't wear this bag as a backpack myself, so I didn't add the hardware on the back of the bag for that. I will be wearing this across my body and it's the perfect bag when I will travelling this summer. At the airport or walking around town it will be easy to use. I love this bag!!!!

A few months ago my mom was getting rid of the little fabric that she had as she doesn't sew anymore. She sent me a few pieces of fabric. One of the fabrics was from way back in the mid 1970's when she owned a quilt shop in Southern California! She also had this beautiful floral fabric in the box that she sent me. I didn't measure it, but there must have been 2-3 yards of this fabric. I wonder what she had planned on making with this fabric? I will ask her this summer when I see her. The day I started sewing this bag, I found out from my sister that my mom was in the hospital. She had to stay there a couple of days to get her blood pressure down, but she's okay and back at home now. So while I sewed, I thought about my mom because she gave me this beautiful fabric and I was concerned about her too. I know when I see her and she sees this bag (and the wallet and carry-on bag I have yet to make with this fabric) she will be so pleased that I used the fabric she gave me.
The front of the bag. The main fabric is the fabric that my mom sent to me a few months ago because she was getting rid of her fabric. I had the accent fabric and the lining already.
I didn't have a thumb catch for opening the bag, so I made a tab and put a magnetic snap on the under side of the tab and added the D-ring to the flap. I am planning on making a large carry-on bag when I travel using the same fabrics to match this bag. The bag I will make has this type of closure on the outside flap pocket, so both bags will look like they go together. Plus I will make a matching wallet as well.
Under the flap is the front pocket.
The back of the bag has a zippered pocket. I didn't add the hardware to convert it to a backpack because I would only wear this across the body.
My zipper pull of course.
Inside the bag is another zippered pocket and slip pockets. I made the center to hold a pen.
