Google & Blogger Comments Not Behaving!

Okay something weird is going on with Google and Blogger. I think it might have to do with the new privacy laws, but not sure. When I get comments they usually go to my email inbox and I can reply to the comment. If you were a no-reply that meant you didn't have your email attached to your setting or you had an email address that for some odd reason Google didn't play well with, like AOL, or Yahoo and others. Now Google is no longer accepting comments from Open ID. I was never sure what Open ID was before, but now apparently you cannot comment. I disabled the anonymous comments long ago due to too much Spam and because I didn't want to moderate my comments. So I have to look at my blog comments to be able to read them all, since not all was going into my inbox. But when they post in my comments, I do not have your email to reply back to you. Even regular people who made comments before without an issue are suddenly showing up only on the blog and not in my inbox. So if you do not hear back from me please do not think I am being rude, it's just Google/Blogger being rude!

I tell you they are making it harder to continue to blog with things they keep changing. I am losing more followers than I gain and it could be their fault? I hope it was nothing I did. So I am sorry if you ever have difficulty in posting a comment or trying to contact me. I do reply to everyone, but if I do not receive your comment or email, then I cannot reply and well I am going to blame it on Google & Blogger because I am not doing anything wrong myself. I sure hope things get straightened out. Just thought I would give you all a heads up because if you too blog and noticed some odd things going on as well, then you know it is nothing that you did.

Oh and if you please click the "notify me" box below and I might be able to reply to you? Not sure how well that will work.

Another thought is to include your email in your comment for a reply from me or other bloggers you visit. You can write it like this: patchouli dot moon dot studio at gmail dot com so spammers cannot easily get a hold of your email (oy another thing to worry/think about)! For my long time followers that I know, some of you I have in my email address book already, but not all.

    1. I tested my own comment and clicked the notify me button and my comment ended up in SPAM and said I was a no-reply. I checked my settings and I do have my email in my settings, so it should have gone into my inbox. So apparently Blogger is now deciding I am a no-reply when I am not! Geesh!

    1. Sandra I made a comment on your blog because I couldn't email you when I clicked on your email in your profile. Hope you read this. Maybe we can add our email address to our contacts to be able to email each other. I don't seem to have your email address anymore.

  5. I always had this issue with just certain bloggers and yes, it is very frustrating. I hope they get this fixed soon. Actually, Blogger needs a complete refresh.

  6. I've had this going on for a while. I accidentally discovered what was going on, and was horrified at comments I had missed from people I interacted with on a regular basis.

  7. I think it could also be the changes 'they' make for mobile phone readers.
In late april, I could not reply to commenters on my laptop but I could on my iphone. That's back on now.
It's difficult for people to click through anyway to comment from their phones. I try to use my blog sidebar to read blogs instead of going through bloglovin'. The privacy cookie policy seems redundant anyway. An extra thing to click - although not as annoying as the 'join our newsletter' pop-up on some blogs that comes up within a second of arriving.
I try to remember I'm using freeware ( blogspot).

  8. Frustrating, isn't it, Daryl. With all the new privacy changes, I doubt that they'll change it back.

    1. I don't think anything will change back either, so we need to add each other's email to our contacts to have them. I will look and see if I have yours Pam.

  10. The way I understand it is, after you write a post and publish, go and be the first one to comment. All other comments should come directly to your email. That's what I found on the blogger forum.

  11. I am so sorry to hear this Daryl, I'm glad I switched to WordPress a couple years ago as I don't have this problem.....yet. I have really noticed that many people are spending more time on FB and Instagram. I still love sharing blog posts with lots of pictures and information so I'll keep blogging. I have a newsletter and recently started sending blog posts to it. Every day I lose a couple subscribers and gain a few.

  12. Hi, Daryl,

I am not happy about the changes with the Open Id comment elimination. It has made it easier for robots and spammers to find me. So I have enabled comment moderation and that has helped. I also noticed that if a friend leaves a comment and they have a google profile, I can still follow the back to my blog.

I started my blog as a personal journal of my quilts and found I have really enjoyed sharing with other quilters. I am going to continue with blogger and try going back to what I did when I had only a handful of followers, which is to click on their profile if they have one and go to their blog and read their news and comment. I hope to keep and make friends this way and make blogging feel personal and friendly. Happy blogging .... :) Pat

  13. It's crazy times, but so far having me leave a comment on my own post and checking the follow-up box has enabled comments to come to me. I'm doing the Pollyanna thing in my head and hoping things work out soon.

  14. Daryl, This must be happening to me on some of my commenters and I never realized why. In the past week I've been seeing all these posts about Google/Blogger stuff. One blogger said she went in and posted a comment and the choose the option notify me of other comments and then she was able to comment notifications and reply. But it shouldn't be this difficult or frustrating.

    1. Carla I heard they are working on this, but who knows what will get fixed and what won't?

Thank you so much for your comment. I appreciate every one. If you do not hear a reply back from me, it could be that you are a no-reply, or that Google/Blogger has changed something (again!) making it impossible to respond back to you. If you want a reply because you asked a question, please fill out the Contact Form located on the right side of the blog and I will respond to you that way. Thank you for stopping by! I was forced to add comment moderation due to huge number of SPAM!
