I Love Home BOM #2

I am making the I love Home Blocks from Jacquelynne Steves, which is a free Block-of-the-Month for 4 months. (Just need to sign up to get the pdf patterns).

So here is my second block. I used rickrack this time for the roofs, and added some more rickrack around the door and above and below the windows.  I thought I would paint some "smoke" coming out of the chimneys too. I enjoy making these blocks. I used batik fabrics all from my scrap bag too! I haven't even cut out this month's block yet and November is practically here, which means the last block is coming. I better get going!!!

Close up look at my rick rack roofs and smoke out the chimneys.

This is block one that I quilted and made into an individual quilt to hang.
Jacquelynne also has a Facebook Group that you can join where people who are making these blocks can post their blocks for others to see. I have seen a lot of really nice blocks on her FB group. Some are making their blocks themed like Spring, Fall, Winter, Summer; while others are making some Halloween, Christmas, etc. I love house blocks and I love applique, so I may make these blocks again, making it into a larger quilt too....we'll see.

I Love Home Block One

I signed up to make the I Love Home Block-of-the-Month, designed by Jaquelynne Steves. This is a free BOM as long as you sign up for it. I finally got around to finishing this August block and just in time before the September one comes out. I just love it! I added some of my own details and used batik fabric scraps. This BOM will be 4 different house blocks. I think I am going to make each one a separate quilt.

Jacquelynne Steves BOM

I used green rickrack for the flower stems and double stacked buttons for the flower centers, which I love to do. I also used different stitches around each flower.
I had played around with the settings first before I sewed the final sections together. But Jacquelynne's setting of the triangles and 3 color strips was the best. Here are some photos showing different placements:

I turned the corner triangle squares the other way with the pink toward the inside and the white to the outside corners to see how this would look. It gives the block an octagonal look.

On this one I kept the triangles as the above block, but flipped the triple strips on the sides and top and bottom.

On this one I just kept the setting above, but flipped the corner triangles back to the white going toward the center.
In the end I thought the green strip around the house looked better than the purple and the white triangles in toward the middle looked better too.

Cozy Afternoon Blocks 3 & 4

I finished making Blocks 3 and 4 of the Cozy Afternoon Block of the Month, designed by Jacquelynne Steves. This is a free Block of the month. I combined machine embroidery stitches and hand embroidery stitches on the appliques. I really enjoyed making these blocks.

Cozy Afternoon Blocks 1 & 2

I joined Jacquelynne Steves' Cozy Afternoon Block-of-the-Month. I love the applique teacup and teapot. I finished blocks 1 & 2. You can join the BOM too, but you need to sign up. The links for the blocks will be emailed to you and it's FREE too! Go here to sign up.
I used scraps of batiks for the teacup.
I chose to use some bright spring colors for these blocks.
I love this teapot design.
I still need to embroider the antennae on the bee. I might add some buttons after this quilt is done and quilted. I am thinking of  adding them on the orange teapot base and maybe a larger one in the center of the teapot? I'll see when I get that far along. I used hand dyed and batik fabric scraps for this teapot.
