Appliqué Sunflower Quilt Block Donation

I am donating this quilt block to Wrap the World With QuiltsThey are collecting Sunflower Quilt Blocks for the Ukraine Project. I donated a couple of quilt blocks over a year ago to them. I also donate quilts and quilt tops to them when I can too. I need to make more quilt blocks, tops and quilts when I can.

12-inch finished block (12 1/2" unfinished).

Sew Powerful Purse #418 (2025)

While this is the 418th purse I made this year (so far), for Sew Powerful Purse Project I have gifted this purse to a sweet woman I know, but have not met in person. It is on the way to her house and she should receive it on Tuesday. She had a business with a purple cat logo and an idea came to me last week to make her a purse with her cat logo on it. She volunteers each year at the Houston Quilt Show in the Sew Powerful booth. While it was too late for her to wear this purse at the show this year when she volunteers, she can use it next year and of course anytime she wants. People will see the purse on her when she volunteers there or uses the purse elsewhere and might make comments or ask questions and then she can let them know about Sew Powerful. So it could be a good advertisement for the charity. I know she doesn't make many purses herself, so she might enjoy having one. She does do a lot of other wonderful things for Sew Powerful instead of making purses.

appliqué purple cat on purse flap
I enlarged her logo to create the appliqué cat. I added crystals for the necklace (her logo was pink circles for the necklace). A Handmade Limited Edition label was riveted on too.

front of purse with pocket
I used this cat print for the lining, which was a fabric that she had sent to me a few months ago, so she is getting a little bit of that fabric back 😄.

interior of purse with cat fabric and a slip pocket
I added a slip pocket inside too with a purple band at the top. I included a mini composition notebook cover that I made with the mini composition notebook and placed it inside the pocket for her. I also included a second mini composition notebook for her to give to another Sew Powerful volunteer who lives in a nearby city and that she sees occasionally.

flap and back of purse spread out
The flap and back showing here. I sewed a blue with metallic ribbon onto the webbing for an added touch. I love the flap fabric. It looks dyed or painted. some of the yardage went into a darker purple, but this section I cut had lighter colors so the cat shows up nicely.

Meow.

I made a double sided fabric strap instead of using webbing. The instructions for the double sided fabric strap I used from another ChrisW Designs bag, the Daily Drift. I really love the double sided strap!

The Globetrot Traveler Sling was a quick and easy bag to make. It is great to use when you only want to carry a few basics. I have been using mine for a few days and love it!

Sew Powerful Purses #414-417 (for 2025)

These are the last 4 purses that I made during the September Sew-a-thon for Sew Powerful Purse Project.

3 purses
I had 3 panels of Dachshund dogs with balloons that I sewed scraps around to create the flaps.

3 purse fronts

one purse
I had this one flap of an owl with a mouse. Owls are okay to use for most of the schools, except for the rural schools that have cultural differences. I wanted to this panel though, since I had it. The volunteers in Zambia will make sure this doesn't go to a rural school. In the rural schools they do not like cats, bats, owls and hyenas, and I don't use those animals in my purses normally, so I will make sure I do not use them anymore.

Sew Powerful Purses #404-409 (for 2025)

These 6 were all completed during the September Sew-a-thon for Sew Powerful Purse Project.

2 purse flaps with pieced wonky stars
I was playing around making wonky stars and came up with these. Didn't want to make an entire quilt of them, so I set them aside in a box where I test pieced blocks out. I was going through those pieced blocks and found these and decided they would make great looking purse flaps and so they did! 😁

2 purse fronts
The burgundy and metallic gold stripe fabric was a fabric I have had for decades!!! Time to use this fabric and I made a few purses using it up at last.

2 scrappy pieced purse flaps in pink fabrics
2 scrappy pieced pink flaps in batik fabrics.

2 pink purse fronts
The pretty pink fabric for the bodies that I have used in a few other purses.

2 more scrappy pieced purse flaps
One scrappy batik fabric flap and another scrappy pink flap.

2 more purses fronts
One purse in each of the fabrics I used above.

Sew Powerful Purses #402-403 (for 2025)

2 more purses made during the Sew-a-thon for Sew Powerful Purse Project

2 purses

purse fronts
I had this brown/black print for years, so decided to make several purses using it.

3 purse flaps
I sent these 3 purse flaps to a woman I know on the Sew Powerful Facebook group. She went to the retreat they had and said they exchanged flaps they made and said she wished she could have won a flap from me. So I offered to send her a flap. I sent her 3 flaps as the cost of postage was the same for just sending one and didn't increase if I sent her 3. Funny thing is she lives in the city I used to live in many years ago. If I hadn't moved, we could have met and ended up being sewing buddies. She quickly turned these into purses.
